Ten years ago I had the honor to represent Gabon at La Biennale di Venezia with a solo show entitled "The Lighthouse of Memory - Go Nogé Mènè". There is no better way to celebrate memories than being here to support this exciting encounter of artists, curators, proposals and audience. MAY YOU LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES and may you have the chance to come :) #owanto #thelighthouseofmemory #gonogemene #buildingthefuture #biennaledivenezia2019 #fernandofrances #contemporaryafricanart #celebration #memories #gabon

To be in Venice during the preview days of the 61st International Art Exhibition, In Minor Keys, at La Biennale di Venezia, felt like a rare privilege. This edition felt intense, emotional and deeply charged. The world was also present in Venice, with its wounds, tensions, absences and unresolved histories. Yet within this atmosphere, art continued to offer spaces of listening, memory, beauty and connection, while also revealing how difficult it is to hold such spaces within a world increasingly polarized and unstable. One does not simply “see” the Biennale. One moves through it emotionally, psychologically, almost spiritually. Some works invited reflection. Others opened more subtle, emotional and intuitive forms of understanding. Many remained unresolved, yet continued to vibrate afterwards. I was especially touched by the Poetry Caravan, an Adieu à Koyo Kouoh carried through poems, songs, voices and dances, and by the encounter with María Magdalena Campos-Pons and her giant flowers. We spoke of her flowers, and of mine, of the Flowers project, and of how flowers can carry memory, pain, beauty, resistance and healing, reflecting the many layers of the world itself. With deep gratitude to Madame Koyo, whose presence continues to guide and resonate, and to all those who brought these extraordinary projects into being. Grateful for the familiar faces, dear friends and new encounters that make Venice, year after year, a place of connection. . . . . @labiennale #owanto #labiennaledivenezia

How to live an artful life. Indeed. To look. To live attentively. Caged was already there. Sometimes things ask to be named. . . . . #owanto #tracesofthetimeless #ozange #neonart #neonartwork contemporaryafricanart

A closer look at We Are Salt and Water. Looking closely changes what we think we see from afar. What first appears as a field of gesture gradually reveals layers of pigment, pressure, and duration. Each mark carries the memory of a movement. From a distance the painting gathers into a single presence; up close it becomes a constellation of traces. We are, after all, salt and water. At the most elemental level, our bodies share the same material language. Perhaps this is why something in the painting feels familiar, as if the eye were recognising a rhythm that belongs to life itself. ____ We are Salt and Water Traces of the Timeless series 200 × 130 cm · 2024 . . . . @reiners_contemporary_art #owanto #contemporaryafricanart

Traces of the Timeless | Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026 | Solo Section · curated by Céline Seror Presented in Cape Town, this body of work continues my inquiry into primordial memory and the gesture as trace. The paintings register each mark as an event. Each layer of pigment holds duration, like sediment accumulating over time. Ozangé, the inner source of light that informs my practice, operates as a condition. A quiet axis around which the work organizes itself. These works ask for proximity rather than interpretation. They shine through presence. They exist as fields of intensity, calibrated through restraint. Grateful for the attention this work has received. . . . . @investeccapetownartfair @reiners_contemporary_art @celine_seror #owanto #contemporaryafricanart #investeccapetownartfair

Yes, what days these have been. Without a doubt, the most special was celebrating Katya’s wedding, and welcoming Fred into our family. There is something profound in motherhood when your children reach these moments. You still feel their small hand in yours, and at the same time you see them walking forward on their own, steady and certain. To witness Katya step into her happiness with such grace was a gift beyond words. 🤍 . . . . @katyaluciaberger @boschendal @sophieetvoilabridal @torralba_bride #capetown #love #wedding

What days these have been. Presenting Traces of the Timeless in the SOLO Section of @investeccapetownartfair , curated by @celine_seror and presented by @reiners_contemporary_art , has been both deeply moving and grounding. To be part of such an exceptional fair, with a truly outstanding programme, felt like standing inside a living dialogue. My heartfelt thanks to Céline for her sensitive and precise curatorial presence, to my gallerist for her constant belief and commitment, and to @zeitzmocaa for supporting the project. The @zeitzmocaa Gala was magnificent. A luminous evening, full of connection, generosity and shared purpose. The museum’s programme this year was powerful and inspiring. I had the privilege of experiencing several exhibitions which, together, form an exquisite curatorial offering, including We Proceed in the Footsteps of the Sunlight by @zohraopoku , and Spring Is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs, presented in dialogue with @thealbiecollection , a deeply meaningful tribute to one of South Africa’s most courageous voices for justice and constitutional democracy. A special moment was the gathering hosted by @womenwhocollect and @anniciam at @belmondmountnelsonhotel , in collaboration with @spierartstrust . Around the table, conversations filled with depth and generosity, culminating in a powerful exchange between @marysibande and @zizipo_poswa , two voices shaping contemporary African art with strength and vision. Grateful. Inspired. Energised. . . . . #owanto #contemporaryafricanart #investeccapetownartfair #zeitzmocaa

Reiners Contemporary Art presents Traces of the Timeless, a solo presentation by Owanto in the Solo Projects section of Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026, curated by Céline Seror within Echoes of Humanity. Marking a profound return to painting, Owanto’s new works unfold as fields of gesture, memory, and vibration, where pigment behaves like living matter and the visible and invisible coexist. Totemic sculptural forms extend this dialogue, evoking ancestral presence and continuity. 📍 Booth S3 🗓 Until 22 February 2026
