Once in a great while, I’ll promote a gig for an artist that, while not being able to hook it up with a different promoter, I believe still needs to be experienced. @overcalc happens to be one of those. Come see 1/3 @multicultband delve DEEP into guitar and synth wizardry on a Sunday evening. 10 bucks gets you in and @skeletonizedpgh and No Hitter share the bill. Fans of John Carpenter soundtracks, Ennio Morricone and Kraftwerk should find something to enjoy.

It’s been a rollercoaster year so far, locally and globally, with little exception for most, it seems. In light (or in spite) of these conditions, here is a sample of me spending more than appropriate amounts of time experimenting with looper pedals, preparing for some @overcalc shows coming in April, starting with a very fun live radio set for the classic WMUC Third Rail Radio in College Park MD on Sunday, April 5. Overcalc (the solo project of Multicult frontman Nick Skrobisz) brings its unique hybridization of electronics and guitar to Two Hours In Tongues for a live performance in the EVR booth on Friday, June 27. Skrobisz will then guest DJ with Mister Mike, showcasing the eclectic influences that have shaped his singular approach. In addition to helming Overcalc, Skrobisz has spent the last decade + fronting rhythmic noise-rock trio Multicult, recording several long players, splits and singles of propulsive, serpentine, unsystematic yet sophisticated heaviness for labels like Sleeping Giant Glossolalia and Reptilian, and for even longer, managed guitar and vocal responsibilities for Voivod-ian outsider metal unit The Wayward. Overcalc has been no less prolific, releasing a string of excellent albums including a collaborative 12” with Steve Moore of Zombi and consistently stellar live actions blending krautrock, minimal techno, prog, and improv elements to create something truly in its own realm. @overcalc @sgglossolalia
