Karla is an award-winning television director and producer, as well as a theatre director, actress, and writer. She has worked with a range of leading and dynamic companies in London and Ireland, including Channel 4, BBC Radio 4, Picturehouse TV, Ricochet, Endemol Shine London, and Ardmore Studios in Dublin.
Her theatre credits span renowned venues such as, Leeds Playhouse, Chichester Festival Theatre, Londons’s Soho Theatre, Andrews Lane Theatre in Dublin, and most recently Cork Arts Theatre. Classically trained as an actress, Karla has had the pleasure of working alongside celebrated performers including Miriam Margolyes, Minnie Driver, and Graham Norton, among many others.
She is the founder of Made to Measure Films, a Kinsale-based production company, and co-founder of The Hive – Screen Cork Writers’ Room, supporting emerging screenwriting talent. Karla is currently performing in Captain Wagtail, by ÉidĂn Griffin, where she plays Clemence McMurrough, a prudish and rule-bound academic whose life is upended by a comic encounter with a woman 300 years her senior, the infamous Anne Bonny.
As she puts it herself, with her children now nearly raised, she’s “back in the ring” bringing her experience across theatre and film to new work and collaborations.
