Our brothers @outlandish took us back to those carefree young days - when the sun felt brighter, the music louder, the food tasted better,
and we ourselves were younger.
Their songs were the soundtrack of our youth.
An entire generation grew up listening to Outlandish.

23. OUTLANDISH ‘OUTLAND’S OFFICIAL’ (2000)
Outlandish’s debut album was music that refused to follow the rules set by the established hip-hop scene in Denmark.
Three young boys from Brøndby Strand, each with their own background and language, blended American hip-hop and R&B with their families’ record collections, which included everything from Bollywood soundtracks and Latin American folk music to Arabic pop music.
In the years following ‘Outland’s Official,’ hip-hop in Denmark became more melodic and R&B-influenced, whether it was party starters Nik & Jay or L.O.C. At the same time, Danish R&B sought to draw even closer to hip-hop, with the early material of the Brøndby Strand artist Burhan G being a prime example.
From their very first album, the trio wrote songs like ‘Fatima’s Hand’ about a woman who is forced into an arranged marriage. This was a topic that neither Den Gale Pose nor MC Clemens wrote songs about.
Thus, Outlandish also demonstrated that there was an appetite for the stories of minority Danes to be heard, which in the latter half of the 2000s led to a wave of Danish-language hip-hop from second-generation immigrants (scroll back to the point about Marwan for that story).
The lyrical universe and the music were based on the same foundation: who the three members were and the backgrounds they came from. They aimed to make their songs personal rather than chasing trends, and in doing so, they ended up turning Danish music upside down. Kjartan F. Stolberg
