Meet @jdot_dnb Our fifth resident DJ. Not only is he apart of OBA, he is 1/3 of @triple_threat_audio but also runs @the_drop_dnb_events He is based in Hertfordshire. He is well known to mix dubstep, bassline, UKG and drum and bass. A master of all trades. His journey began when his mates started putting on local grassroots events about 4-5 years ago. His journey into mixing started alongside two close mates, and he has now been mixing for nearly two and a half years. Meet @mercia.dnb 👀 Not only is he our resident DJ, but he is also one half of Outerbloom Audio 🖤 He also forms part of @triple_threat_audio … some may say he’s a busy man!! He based in the West Midlands, namely Wolverhampton. Mercia predominantly mixes Jump Up, but is known to explore all sub genres when behind the decks. His journey into the DnB scene began after being completely mesmerised by DJ Hazard’s Time Tripping. That track sparked a deeper love for the scene and eventually inspired him to start mixing himself. This conversation needs to happen, but it needs to be the right one. So tell me your thoughts 👇🏻 The music scene, especially in rave culture, is built on PLUR: Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. It is supposed to mean everyone belongs, regardless of race, gender, sexuality or ability. But the reality does not always reflect that. We live in a society where people are protected from discrimination, so there is no excuse for parts of the scene still ignoring or sidelining certain groups. Women have always had to work harder to be taken seriously. The fact it still surprises people that a woman can own a collective or be an artist within the scene says a lot. Yes, men feel pressure too, but realistically it can often be easier for a man to be noticed in this industry. There is a hierarchy, and it runs from small promoters right up to the biggest companies. This is not about gender, age, sexual orientation, race, religion, etc. That just creates more division. Misogynistic comments or any comments, intentional or not, are not acceptable. Women already face enough pressure around their appearance, ability and place, so bringing aesthetics into it misses the point. There are better ways to approach these conversations. This may be a male dominated industry, but there are countless talented women being overlooked. That has to change. If PLUR actually means something, it has to be lived. Not just said.
