Throwback to a Forest Bathing session last Autumn for an Older ladies group.
This session touched my soul, the way I experienced these women connect to nature and become deeply present in themselves. I witnessed peace and contentment to name just a few.
I became spiritually rooted as I processed my grief for my mother through these women.

My family were all under the weather feeling really low with aches and pains from flu ๐คง. So we headed out to our local forest/woods to get a dose of PHYTONCIDES- a chemical released by trees ๐ณ which:
โ ๏ธ Strengthens our IMMUNE & NERVOUS SYSTEMS
โ ๏ธ Improves feelings of low mood, anxiety, and depression
And boy, did it make a difference! The aches were gone (my back was killing me), and we all felt happier, relaxed, and more flexible.
We went from barely being able to get out of bed to feeling normal and human again.
Feeling low? Get out to nature, you will thank you for it

Get outdoors!
The sun is shining, and it feels like new beginnings entering into spring and coming out of the dark and cold hibernation of winter.
"There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing."
You want a day trip outdoors to the Loch (Lake) and KNOW your kids are going to want to jump right in.
As a mum I have the same anxieties as any other mum - she's going to get water into her shoes her clothes are going to get soaked and then I'll have spend all my time and energy peeling soaking wet clothes of her and trying to change her clothes without catching pneumonia!
Putting the right clothes on my kids was a game changer!
The water is still baltic even though the sun is shining, so I packed some fleece lined waterproof overalls and long fleece wellies. I took their bottoms and socks off and stuck their wellies on with the overalls strapping over their boots, making them nearly water tight. So that if water does even get into their wellies, you can dry them down quickly without worrying about your kiddo getting cold sitting in wet clothes. The water that got into my crazy energetic one was nominal and none into my toddlers.
Honestly, this was such a stress free hack, AND I got to kick back and relax and actually enjoy watching my kids connect with nature in a wholesome way. It really was great to see them being entertained for hours by Nature and not whinning for a screen!

It is feedback like this that makes me do what I do ๐ซ I LOVED learning about trying to incorporate an Esol class as part of a wellness session.
Delivering to newly arrived asylum seekers, I used simple yoga and forest bathing elements whilst using nature as a classroom to broaden their English vocabulary โค๏ธ
I used the beginning of the session to understand the ladies' expectations as they had a negative experience of their first outdoor visit to the same place and did not want to come back here again. So my objective was to establish a positive relationship with the place by giving them creative but simple tools for using the space for relaxation, wellbeing and recreation and somewhere they would want to return to for the rest off the 6 week programme.
By the end of the session, ladies reported feeling completely relaxed and enjoyed connecting to the nature around them and learning simple exercises to do outdoors, which they had not done before. They also welcomed that the session had created a safe and private space giving them time away from their families to enjoy themselves.
The session helped to establish a relationship of trust with the group where they came up with their own ideas off what they would like to do and contribute to the next sessions! This establishes sustainable engagement with the outdoors.

Women's Wellbeing Sessions are ongoing for the next 3 weeks every Thursday 1-3pm meeting point at The Bowling Green open to all women for free.
Expecting or new mothers especially welcome ๐
Each week we do a wellbeing activity, whilst introducing you to Pollokshields community spaces open to all, we make our tea and learn how to make tea outdoors using Kelly Kettles, snacks provided.
