Happy and sad at the same time today.
Happy and super grateful because I got to mix and master these final @irishhandcuffs songs.
Sad because they are their final songs.
Anyway, these songs rip. I just love the melodies, harmonies and overall vibe. Didn’t expect anything less from you guys and I’m stoked to be a part of it again!
Thanks for everything you’ve created and done over the years. I’ve always loved working with you, sharing the stage with you, going to @boozecruisefestival with you, and just hanging out at shows talking about our personal lives or Taylor Swift.
Thank you for trusting me with these final songs, thank you for all the cool projects over the last 15 years, and of course: Happy release day, @irishhandcuffs ! ❤️
Be intentional with your mixing and production decisions. Keep it simple and do what the song is telling you to do. Serve the music.
Instead of just copying what other people are doing in YouTube videos, learn the "why" behind every decision.
Learn one thing at a time and practice that until you really understand it. Slowly add things to your toolkit over time.
If you try to do it all at once you'll have no control over your sessions and you'll be doing things without a good reason for it.
There's a time and place for all of those things. But it's not all of it all the time. Learning when not to touch a track is just as important.
It's all about context, truly understanding your tools and being intentional.
A mixer/producer who truly understands a few audio basics and can apply them in a way that serves the song will always get better results than someone with all the fancy plugins, trying to apply complex techniques without really understanding them.
