In the month of March, we’re setting up two live music moments: in addition to the already announced Jooklo Duo, on the 14th at Cooperativa Mula, we’re now adding a night of quadruple explosion with rising acts Heroína, Banana Park, Engrenagem Necrofilia and Ändlös Otuk at Gasoline, on March 20th - a night to feel the pulse of these four feral, benevolent elegies with nuclear-grade punch levels. Free entry!
The flip side: the Brazilian band RAKTA will no longer be touring Portugal, and the concert previously announced for April 17 will therefore not take place ☹️ For everyone who purchased tickets online, please contact the ticketing platform at [email protected] to request a refund.

Cenário arriscado e pouco habitual o da dupla de saxofones – seja no contexto do jazz, seja no da improvisação livre, seja no da composição contemporânea. “Straight to the point”, disco lançado pela Rotten Fresh em 2022, e o fresquíssimo “morte” gravado e mixado por Tomé Silva, estão, no entanto, à vontade em todos esses contextos; Guilherme Rodrigues e Zé Maria, jovens saxofonistas de nenhuma cena em particular, entendem perfeitamente o que de punk há no silêncio e na respiração.

A risky and rather uncommon setup, the saxophone duo –whether in the context of jazz, free improvisation, or contemporary composition. Straight to the Point, an album released by Rotten Fresh in 2022, and the most recent “morte” recorded and mixed by Tomé Silva, nonetheless successfully and naturally inhabit all of these worlds. Guilherme Rodrigues and Zé Maria, young saxophonists belonging to no particular scene, have a sharp understanding of the punk spirit found in silence and breath.

Após mais um ano em que se destacam o número e a qualidade das candidaturas recebidas, é com prazer que anunciamos a vencedora da Bolsa de Criação Local OUT.RA 2026.
Alëna Koleso é artista visual e sonora sediada no Barreiro. Através de experimentação electroacústica, gravações de campo e objetos do quotidiano, desenvolve estruturas livres moldadas pelo ritmo, repetição, improvisação e o acaso.
No âmbito da bolsa, Alëna desenvolverá ao longo do ano um trabalho de investigação e criação a partir do seu arquivo sonoro pessoal e de modos de apresentação não-lineares. Novidades boas sobre estes modos seguir-se-ão ao longo dos próximos meses!

After another year marked by the number and quality of applications received, we are pleased to announce the recipient of OUT.RA’s 2026 Local Creation Grant.
Alëna Koleso is a visual and sound artist based in Barreiro. Through electroacoustic experimentation, field recordings, and everyday objects, she develops open structures shaped by rhythm, repetition, improvisation, and chance.
As part of the grant, Alëna will develop a year-long research and creation project based on her personal sound archive and non-linear modes of presentation. More to follow on these approaches in the coming months!

OUT.FEST returns for its 22nd edition, from October 1 to 4, unfolding across Barreiro’s story-laden spaces, and as a space in itself for progressiveness, freedom, indeterminacy, and openness to chance: everything we’re constantly told not to be. OUT.FEST is not a festival of opposition, though, but of affirmation - of what pulls us back in, of all Music(s), and of human encounters.
Save the dates: October 1–4. Move with confidence on the early-bird passes - the programme will be intense.
* Early-bird / full passes grant access to all four days of the festival. For the first time, one or two concerts outside the main venues may require a separate ticket or reservation fee. More details soon.

Vigésimo-segundo OUT.FEST entre os dias 1 e 4 de outubro pelos espaços carregados de histórias do Barreiro, e um festival-espaço ele mesmo de progressismo, liberdade, indefinição e abertura ao acaso - tudo o que se vai dizendo para não se ser. O OUT.FEST não é festival de oposição, no entanto, mas de afirmação do que nos resgata, das Músicas todas e dos encontros humanos.

O duo de Carla Santana e Carlos Santos é um perfeito exemplo do enorme potencial dialogante das gravações sonoras de campo e sons do quotidiano com a alteridade quase total da síntese eletrónica, entretecidos numa prática improvisatória que dá igual destaque ao imprevisto e ao inconsiderado. “O som que se dissolve no espaço não é um ponto fixo, mas sim movimento entre o gesto e a ressonância do lugar. Existe no limiar entre o que poderia ser e uma trajetória. Um mapa de escuta, que habita o tempo.”

The duo of Carla Santana and Carlos Santos is a clear example of the vast dialogical potential between field recordings and everyday sounds, and the near-total otherness of electronic synthesis, interwoven within an improvisational practice that gives equal weight to the unforeseen and the unconsidered. “Sound dissolving into space is not a fixed point, but rather movement between gesture and the resonance of place. It exists on the threshold between what might be and a trajectory. A map of listening, inhabiting time.”
The 10th tekhnē podcast features a talk by João Polido, a Portuguese musician, composer, and lecturer who investigates cultural memory, tradition, sound technology, and the socio-political history of music. The title of this talk, “Spectral Lore of Tradition”, emerges from his observation that, as oral memory fades from contemporary life (paradoxically aided by recorded media), traditional music and folklore become suspended in a kind of temporal loop.
Shaped by structures of power in Portugal’s history - particularly during the military dictatorship and its aftermath - these forms reveal complex dynamics of aural remembrance, abstraction, and reference. Framing remembering and forgetting as intertwined acts, Polido explores spectral processes in audio as both remediation and a strategy in the face of the failure of recognition.

Film submissions for Sonica Ekrano - Music Documentary Film Festival 2026 are now open via Film Freeway until April 30th.
As for the past edition, films might be eligible for the Competitive Section (films over 50min, finished after January 2025 and never screened in Portugal), for the Non-Competitive section (films over 50min finished before January 2025 and/or previously screened in Portugal) and for the Short-Film section (films under 50min).
The 5th Sonica Ekrano will take place in September, in Barreiro.

Tal como no ano passado, aceitamos submissões de filmes para a Secção Competitiva (filmes com mais de 50min, finalizados após Janeiro de 2025 e nunca exibidos em Portugal), para a Secção Não-Competitiva (filmes com mais de 50min finalizados antes de Janeiro de 2025 e/ou já exibidos em Portugal) e para a Secção Curtas (menos de 50min).
A 5ª edição do Sonica Ekrano realizar-se-á em setembro, no Barreiro.
