Artist books are a form of art with a slippery definition. Are they books? Are they poems? Are they sculptures?
In the Found Poetry workshop we’ll be exploring this medium by creating our own artist books. You’ll learn a basic bookbinding method to create a book from old greeting cards, and the rest of the workshop will be spent in community - chatting and getting to know each other while we search through collage materials to find the images and words that speak to us.
This workshop is meant for creatives of any level, especially those looking for ways to let go of perfectionism! Having to curate what’s meaningful to you from the collage materials and finish the book within the time limit of the workshop is a great way to push yourself to let go of high expectations and trust your process.

Please join us at @ours.today for City Scores, a collaborative publication exhibition by VCU Graphic Design students, showcasing months-long explorations of field notes, and mapped reflections on and around Richmond.
The publications invite slow looking, encouraging viewers to experience the city as a bundle of textures, sounds, and unfolding sights.
The works range from handheld books to interactive book objects. These intimate, domestic reports offer a poignant reflection of Richmond and also serve as a compelling time capsule.
The event will be held from 6-8PM on this Thursday, April 30th!

Our first ever illustration cafe at @ours.today was a huge success! ✨
It was so nice to escape the demands of the world for just a moment and indulge in community, slowness, and meditation through illustration.
We made new friends under the candlelight, broke bread (aka feasted on some delicious @stillsundayrva focaccia), and captured such a beautiful moment in time.

Come unplug and celebrate the spring weather at Baba’s first ever Illustration Cafe. Settle in with our still life installation featuring focaccia from @stillsundayrva , flowers, and drinks, capturing the scene from start to finish. We’ll begin with a short grounding exercise and a few prompts to guide our illustration practice, then ease into an open, free-flow session for the remainder of the event. 🌷✨
You’re encouraged to bring your own materials (watercolor, pencils, ink, sketchbooks, or anything you love to work with), however paper and pencils will also be provided.
All levels are welcome.

Acting is both easy and impossible. At its core, acting is simply doing the thing every child knows how to do: playing pretend. But you get into trouble when you try to act too well. To attempt a polished and predictable performance is to deliver a lifeless, boring recitation. Acting demands that we embrace failure. A very famous American movie star is rumored to say “pray for mistakes,” because mistakes allow spontaneity and specificity to crash through the well-choreographed artifice.
In this two-day acting workshop, we will employ exercises from the worlds of clowning and improv in order to give award-worthy performances of contemporary theatrical texts. But we will fail! And we will revel in our failure!
No prior acting experience is necessary. But Academy Award Winners are also welcome! Everyone will have fun. Even if you never act again, the joy of failure you’ll discover in this class will enrich your daily life.
