Our Environmental Justice Fellowship friends invited us to join a really cool thing tomorrow! This Sunday, June 8th from 9:30am-2:00pm the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy (GNPC), working with the school district, Gidney Avenue Memorial School and NFA North, will plant a small orchard and pollinator meadow in the field between the two school campuses.  We’ll plant fruit trees, nut trees and berry bushes, and 300 native flowering plants to provide food and habitat for pollinators, all protected from critters with a rustic fence. We will also introduce community members to the 27 shade trees GNPC planted late last fall and how best to care for these important community assets. This beautiful space will also serve as an outdoor classroom bringing students from GAMS and NFAN together with GNPC’s Environmental Justice Fellows and a variety of community groups in education and hands-on stewardship sessions.
