The Rt. Hon. Herb Gray was the first Jewish cabinet minister and later served as Deputy Prime Minister. He was styled “Right Honourable” upon retirement in recognition of his service.

Sam Wakim was elected to the House of Commons in 1979, one of three Lebanese Canadians elected that year. A lawyer, he represented Don Valley East. After his defeat in 1980, he became a key advisor to Parliament.

Douglas Jung was the first visible minority and Canadian of Asian descent elected to the #HoC, representing the riding of Vancouver Centre from 1957 to 1962.
Before politics, he served in WWII and later practiced as a lawyer. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 1990.
