meet the 2026-2027 committee!! (part 1)
a few words from our new president, secretary and treasurerā¦
Adam: Iām really excited to be serving as President this year. OUPLC is more than just powerlifting, itās a community, and my aim is to make sure it stays supportive, welcoming, and well-run for everyone, whether youāre new to lifting or have been around for years. The club and the sport have had a huge impact on me: this was my first real experience of being part of a sports club, and I was welcomed with open arms and supported to improve without any sense of judgement. At a time when I was rebuilding a bit of confidence and trying to find my footing again, OUPLC gave me a real sense of place. Thatās something I really want to preserve and pass on to others. Feel free to reach out any time, whether youāre thinking of joining or already part of the club. Looking forward to a good year with everyone!
Gwen: Iām Gwen, long-term OUPLC committee member and Secretary this year. Iāll be keeping the emails flowing and am always happy to answer all your questions on the club and getting into competing!
Sam: As Treasurer, Iām here to make sure the club is stable financially. I also want to make sure that each member feels theyāve got the most out of their subscription. As a committee member I want to represent the club in all its many facets, whether thatās in the gym, in meetings, at comps or at socials.
meet the committee (part 2) and itās your 2026/27 captains!!!
as always, hereās a few wordsā¦
Samantha: Excited to be womenās captain this year! Iāll be helping to run the squads as well as 2027 varsity which will be held in Oxford (some exciting stuff, still begging the club to let me buy confetti cannons) Iād love to get more women into the sport and hope I can create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere, just as others did for me when I joined :)
Gus : I have been into powerlifting for a couple years and I want to inspire more people to get into the sport as the menās captain, where Iāll be in charge of the Varsity squad of this year. Iāve only been a member at OUPLC for 2 terms since I started at Oxford, and I am grateful to have found such a welcoming community to help me feel at home in a new city (some of the first friends I made in Oxford were the OUPLC members when I came to train in 0th week Michaelmas).
Talyn: Super excited to be your novice captain this year! Here to be a friendly face around the gym, if you want to get started with powerlifting, Iām your man! And DO CUPPERS (sign ups coming out soon!) šļøššŖ
