Live on BaT! During its remarkable 28 year production run, the Esprit transitioned from having performance comparable to a standard Porsche 911 to being better matched to a 911 turbo. That transition started with this car, the S3 Turbo, one of the earliest turbocharged Lotus models. This particular example has seen extensive restoration work including a beautiful respray in its original black with gold accents livery. #lotusesprit

A very 250 time in the life of OTS. We recently sold both of these iconic vintage Ferraris: an alloy bodied 250 GT SWB Competition and a 250 GT Lusso. The SWB was the successor to the 250 Tour de France, a car that earned that name after winning the event four years in a row starting in 1956. The SWB was shortened to improve its agility, the engine upgraded, and the chassis was more sophisticated thanks to the adoption of disc brakes and telescopic dampers. The SWB won the Tour de France three more times, in addition to winning its class at Le Mans and the Constructor’s Championship for the GT class. Despite all this competition success, the SWB is a totally usable street car and that is the key to its desirability: it is a true dual-purpose car. This is true even of the alloy bodied competition version of the car. A steel bodied road oriented version was also offered, which was eventually replaced in the model line by the Lusso. The Lusso incorporated the chassis advancements of the SWB and broke new stylistic ground with its Kamm tail, which was integrated into a design that is among the most beautiful Ferraris of any era. 📷: @edenhitzke

Just sold: this PTS X Blue (yes that’s the actual color name) 911 S/T with Sonderwunsch interior. The philosophical successor to the 2016 911R, the 911 S/T was developed with a confidence and dedication that hadn’t been possible during the 911R’s development, which was characterized by concern that there would not be a market for the car. Case in point, for the S/T, Porsche’s head of GT, Andreas Preuninger, dedicated his best chassis development engineer for a year to getting the dynamics just right. The definition of success for the S/T meant a pure, fulfilling experience for the driver using the car on the road. To achieve this, the car was lightened considerably, the rear wheel steering eliminated, the steering ratio altered, and the suspension given more compliance which makes the car more at home on the road while telegraphing the car’s motions and attitude in a way that makes it much more engaging. The weight saving was achieved by reducing soundproofing, and numerous carbon fiber panels including front deck lid, front fenders, roof, and doors. Magnesium wheels were also part of the specification. The engine is the 4.0 liter naturally-aspirated GT3RS unit making 518hp, which is paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission which has closer ratios than the GT3 manual. The result of these thoughtful changes and the obsessive development is among the most enjoyable and satisfying road cars of the last decade. Just 1963 examples were built and they have already become highly collectible. #911st #pts #porschepts

Lotta SEC this month at OTS. We sold TWO remarkably similar pre-merger AMG C126s from Japan, both 6.0 liter M117/9 cars with absurd Carat Duchatelet interiors. The green one was the only one made in this color and has green interior accents including leather gauge faces and full buffalo leather trim. The pearl black car has an insane AV system including a VHS player. Both cars you’d want to avoid seeing in a dark alley in Tokyo.

SOLD! The Lusso was among the last of the approximately two dozen variants of the Ferrari 250 made. It combined stylistic and technical elements from other 250 variants, including the 250 GTO, with which it shared its rear suspension design. The Lusso’s name, which translates to “luxury”, reflects the bifurcation of its predecessor, the 250 GT SWB into two models: the road-oriented Lusso and the GTO. By the standards of a race car manufacturer like Ferrari, the Lusso was luxurious: it had a fully leather trimmed interior, reasonable space for occupants and luggage, and a light, airy greenhouse with slim pillars. But it was still very much a Ferrari, as evidenced by its technical specification, which included the Colombo V12 whose power peak occurred at 7,500 RPM, disc brakes all around, and the supremely elegant yet also sporting Pininfarina styling. Produced for a brief 18 month period, just 350 Lussos were built and have always been regarded as among the most beautiful Ferraris ever built. This Lusso has spent almost its entire life in California, including the 20 years from 1968-1988 with the same Oakland resident. In the early 90s, it received an engine rebuild by Phil Reilly and Company which included a conversion to a competition 6 carburetor setup, together with headwork and GTO specification pistons and camshafts. A cosmetic restoration followed in the 2000s and the car went on to win a platinum award at Concorso Ferrari in Pasadena, California. In more recent years, the car was displayed at the Petersen Automotive Museum in 2024 as part of the Maranello Masterpieces display. 📷: @edenhitzke

SOLD! Special thanks to @animoyagarage for finding a buyer for this obsessively restored Quattrovalvole. Its purchase represents a decades-long dream for its new owner, who appreciates it as both an icon of design and an engineering benchmark. The Countach emerged when mid-engined cars were still quite new, and its mechanical layout represented a novel approach to packaging the powertrain because it placed the gearbox ahead of rather than behind the engine. But its looks are what most people remember it for. Although both the Countach and Miura were both designed by Bertone’s Marcello Gandini, and just five years apart, their design languages are dramatically different. This is a testament to the pace at which car design was evolving during this period. In 1974, just 11 years after founding the car company that bore his name, Ferruccio Lamborghini had sold all his shares. The company lurched from one financial crisis to another and passed through the hands of three more owners by the time the 1980s had ended. Fortunately, one of those owners was the Mimran brothers. The French businessmen were competent and enthusiastic, investing in product just in time for Lamborghini to field a perfectly outrageous model line during the conspicuous consumption craze of the 1980s. The centerpiece of this was of course the Countach, which despite appearing in 1971, was just right for the outlandish tastes of the 1980s with its new flared, bespoilered looks. #countach #lamborghinicountach

SOLD! Before the 205, Peugeot’s reputation was for making conservative, stodgy cars. Thus, the 205’s contemporary, stylish, and fun character transformed Peugeot’s image and laid the groundwork for a series of successful models with genuine, youthful appeal for decades to come. The 205 was thoughtfully designed, competitively priced, and spatially efficient, fun to drive, and modern, which helped it win Car of the Year in 1984. The all-independent suspension and packaging made it the ideal basis for more sporting variants, and both 1.6 and 1.9 liter fuel-injected GTIs appeared. In 1988, an even more budget friendly but also desirable variant appeared, the Rallye. Engineered and built by Peugeot-Talbot Sport, the 205 Rallye was at its heart, a homologation car. Its trick was its low weight; the car was de-contented to reduce weight by 130 pounds to less than 1,750 pounds through the elimination of fully trimmed door panels, sound proofing, electric windows, power steering, and central locking. The engine was lighter too; it used a bored version of the 1.1 liter 205 unit, which increased displacement to 1.3 liters. Fitted with a sports camshaft and a pair of enormous Weber carburetors, it made only 2hp less than the 1.6 GTI, and did so in a considerably more exciting fashion. Under the skin, the 205 Rallye used 1.6 GTI suspension and brakes, while aesthetically, the car was distinguished by fender flares and multi-colored Peugeot-Talbot Sport decals front and rear. All 205 Rallyes were painted white; even the steel wheels were color-coded to match the car’s body. They wore narrower tires, which made the handling even more lively. Sales performance was also lively since de-contenting the Rallye not only made it lighter, it made it cheaper. All told, the Rallye cost about 20% less than a 1.6 liter GTI, and became an instant icon, a rare case where buyers got more fun by spending less money.

Live on BaT, this 30k km 550 is finished in the stunning color combo of Tour de France blue with crema interior with blue dash and carpets. It’s had lots of recent maintenance and comes with books, tools, Ferrari car cover, and recent service records. Notably absent is a tire repair kit because this car never had one because it is equipped with the very rare spare tire option. Not sure we have ever seen this in person before!
