“Féerie” is finally here! Play it from start to finish if you can and tell me what you felt, stepping in the world of ancient fairytales and dreams that I tried to create. And have a look at the beautiful artwork by Angie @angie_siveria and all its little details.

Féerie is now available on vinyl, featuring the magical artwork by Angie @angie_siveria .
I waited many months for these records to arrive, and I’m very happy with how they turned out.
There’s a limited number available in my shop. I can also sign them for you if you’d like (just add a note to your order). See link in bio.

As a composer, I often tried to work with sampled instruments. But I was never really convinced. They always sounded too “perfect”, too clean for my taste. So, with the exception of some additional layers in the background, I nearly always use real instruments, which can be a hassle: a piano needs to be tuned, the mics need to be set up correctly, the room needs to have good acoustics. And usually, if everything finally seems perfect, the pedal of the piano begins to squeak and you need to call the piano technician again. But in the end, it’s usually worth the effort.
But there are some situations where sampled instruments can be the better option. And there are instruments that are impossible to “play” in reality, such as a music box. So, after trying and buying different music box plugins over time, I decided to sample my own programmable, punch-card music box and do it right. I was surprised that it sounded much more real and charming than all the plugins I had bought. I decided to sample a few of my other instruments. It became kind of a hobby and proved to be a lot of fun. And eventually, my first plugin is available to buy: AEVAL Felt Piano, a sampled version of my beautiful Klavins Una Corda piano.
If there are any music producers, composers, or just hobby musicians here, it might be interesting to you. This is the first instrument in an ongoing series called Dark Fairytale Instruments @darkfairytaleinstruments . The next releases will be a celesta and a music box, so stay tuned. 🎶
Great news!

Lately, I’ve been re-learning many of my older pieces for a very special project that will still take some time. Here’s a short excerpt from Madagascar (2018) on the dulcitone.
