I had the pleasure of painting this tote bag and program artwork for @orchtoronto this year to help promote an amazing organization. After researching the orchestra members and painting them, it's really fun to spot them on stage! I hope you all enjoy the bags. Consider giving the gift of tickets to Orchestra Toronto this year. The January concert is "Darth Vader Meets The Godfather" which I'm very excited about. A special thanks to @the_flautist for making this collaboration possible 💜 #watercolor #illustration #orchestra #paintingmusic #musician #canadianartist #srilankancanadian #orchestratoronto #itsallaboutthatbass

Wrapping up 2025 with Sheriff Country Ep7 airing this week. I'm the most proud of my work on this show because I really felt like I had stepped into my skin as an actor. I also owe a lot to the show's leads, Michele Weaver & Matt Lauria, as well as Director Holly Dale, for creating an amazing creative space. Earlier this year, for the first time, I played a Sinhalese character who had some choice words about her ethnicity. Written by none other than @laknaedirisinghe for @latebloomerseries S2E2, this is hopefully not the last time that I get to play the overtly desi side of myself. Thank you Lakna for your heart felt writing. I don't think I've posted anything about my acting career in several years, and that's a personal choice, but today I want to take a moment to shower some love on my incredible agents at @artagencyinc who have been with me through so much. @eklams you're a hero. Thank you for going on this journey with me. #southasianactor #srilankancanadian #sheriffcountry @cbs #latebloomer #actinglife #acting

Cappuccino toned watercolor paper from @hahnemuehle_global is great for quick sketches because it gives a base to build exactly that...tone. A little white pencil crayon or Posca marker gives it some extra flare if you want something to pop. One place of note is the popular @miamia_tokyo cafe where I had a drink that used the mystery fruit-slush jar seen in the panting. The entire neighborhood is worth a visit. I got my first stamp in Japan at the @tokiwaso_manga_museum which was an incredibly inspiring experience (see photos of art studios). My graphic novel has been brewing in my head for only 18years, maybe it's time to buckle down and make it. #danielsmithwatercolors #watercolor #urbansketch #japantravel #tokyo #kyoto #cafesketch #tonedpaper #canadianartist #srilankancanadian

Paying your train fare in smaller cities gets complicated even with Google translate. This is a picturesque local train station on the Toyama Chiho Railway line headed to the Kurobe Gorge. Sketched with a @fabercastellglobal brush tip pitt pen. @etchr_lab #urbansketch #japantravel #kurobe #pleinairartist #penandinkartist #canadianartist #srilankancanadian #trainstation #trainsketch

The Kurobe Gorge (黒部峡谷, Kurobe Kyōkoku) is a ravine in the Northern Japan Alps cut by the Kurobe River. The tram takes you across numerous bridges and tunnels, so after disembarking, I found a nice spot on a swaying suspension bridge and painted the passing trains. I feel like I had to sacrifice painting the forest with more detail in order to accurately convey the bridge construction. If this wasn't on the go, I would use latex masking fluid to allow for more freedom. Base sketch with @sailor.pen.northamerica Sailor fude fountain pen and @platinumpenusa Platinum Sepia Pigment Ink. @danielsmithartistsmaterials @etchr_lab #watercolor #pleinairartist #urbansketch #kurobe #bridgepainting #japantravel #canadianartist #srilankancanadian

I'm a mountain girl who loves sushi, so Toyama was the perfect base for day trips to these two incredible cities that have preserved districts of feudal Japan. Base sketch with @sailor.pen.northamerica Sailor fude and @platinumpenusa Platinum Sepia pigment ink, which is waterproof. #kanazawa #takayama @danielsmithartistsmaterials @etchr_lab #watercolor #urbansketch #pleinairartist #canadianartist #srilankancanadian #japantravel

Wander away from the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and discover the beautiful nearby temples such as Gioji Temple. I felt like I would burst from the beauty of the moss and mixed vegetation. #watercolor @danielsmithartistsmaterials @etchr_lab #pleinairartist #japantravel #arashiyamabambooforest #kyoto #bamboo #canadianartist #srilankancanadian

When you walk through Gion, you will likely arrive at Yasaka Shrine, especially during peak seasons. The large dance stage just inside the gates would have made a great painting, but I thought it would be the most respectful to set up my easel on the sidewalk outside the temple. A lot of people passed through on their way to work and school. This was a quick, early morning study with a fine @fabercastellcanada pitt pen. @danielsmithartistsmaterials @etchr_lab #watercolor #urbansketch #pleinairartist #kyoto #japantravel #yasakashrine #canadianartist #srilankancanadian

What started as a painting of the Gojō Bridge over the Kamo River near Gion turned into people watching as a dozen little dogs came out to socialize. The sky changed colours so rapidly and drastically that I had a hard time keeping up with it before the paint dried. Perfect time to drop in some quinacridone rose, though! @danielsmithartistsmaterials @etchr_lab #watercolor #urbansketch #pleinairartist #kyoto #gion #japantravel #canadianartist #srilankancanadian

Painting at the peak of Mount Inari while being devoured by mosquitoes. I cried through the entire sketch and came away with a dozen new bites. Fushimi Inari Taisha contains thousands of Shinto shrines and of course, tori gates. I was determined to make the hike. The fox statues were probably my favorite. They are Inari's messengers (the Shinto God of rice). P.S. going all the way to the peak is unnecessary. I'd say the half way point is a great place to stop. @fabercastellcanada @danielsmithartistsmaterials @etchr_lab #watercolor #pleinairartist #fushimiinari #japantravel #kyoto #canadianartist #srilankancanadian
