🔊Spotlight Africa — Sudan & the Geopolitics of Agency In Episode 3, Dr. Joana de Deus Pereira challenges one of the most persistent misconceptions: that external actors “decide” Africa’s alignment. Russia’s Africa Corps isn’t operating just for access to resources or geostrategic advantage — it is participating in a mutual, diplomatic relationship, where African governments choose partners who fill strategic needs. This means influence in Africa today is not a remake of 20th-century colonialism — it’s a negotiation, shaped by countries with their own agency, leverage, and priorities. Any effective foreign policy must acknowledge this reality if it hopes to compete in the region. Watch the full conversation on our channel! #sudan

Spotlight Africa EP 2 : Sudan with Cameron Hudson (CSIS) is available on our website! Just register to get it! ✅ Why is Sudan attracting so much attention from regional powers today? In our Spotlight Africa episode, we look at how the center of influence around Sudan has shifted over the past two decades. Where the U.S. and European partners once led diplomatic efforts, Gulf states and regional actors now play the defining role in shaping both negotiations and realities on the ground. As states around the Red Sea and Horn of Africa gained economic strength and strategic ambitions, they moved from observers to primary power brokers. Cameron Hudson is a Senior Associate at the CSIS Africa Program, with decades of experience in peacebuilding, security, and diplomatic engagement across Africa. #sudan #sudancrisis

In this clip from our recent “FIMI in Action” webinar, Radivoje Grujić, an expert with over two decades of experience in election observation and assistance, tackled the question in depth. He points out that while initiatives like the Digital Services Act aim to address FIMI, the bureaucratic process can be slow and cumbersome, failing to keep pace with the dynamic nature of election campaigns. Drawing on his extensive experience with organizations like the OSCE/ODIHR, Council of Europe, and IFES, Radivoje suggests that the EU can learn from successful initiatives like its anti-corruption efforts, where swift action and effective prosecution yielded tangible results. #FIMI #eu

Why is foreign interference turning to encrypted platforms? 🤳 Watch this clip from our webinar 🎥 , “FIMI in Action: Analyzing Foreign Interference in Europe,” featuring disinformation expert Andra-Lucia Martinescu. Andra, a Research Fellow with the Foreign Policy Centre and Co-founder of The Diaspora Initiative, has investigated election interference, including Romania’s 2024 election, and conducted fieldwork across Moldova, Ukraine, Transnistria, and Russia. She points out a key challenge: disinformation is migrating to encrypted platforms like Discord, Rumble, WhatsApp, and Telegram. This makes fact-checking and moderation difficult, creating fertile ground for spreading harmful narratives. Andra also emphasizes the vulnerability of diaspora communities to radicalization within these spaces. She also emphasizes the particular vulnerability of diaspora communities to radicalization, often facing a “double radicalization” both in their home countries and countries of residence.

Osavul in the Art of Defending Democracy in the Age of Manipulation 🛡️ On December 7, 2024, Berlin hosted the Truth to Justice Conference, a landmark event bringing together top experts, policymakers, and researchers to tackle the growing threat of deception and its impact on democratic values. One of the innovative projects featured at the conference was Infocry, powered by the AI-driven software Osavul and our outstanding researcher Valeriia Malchenko. This project analyzed social media narratives in Germany and Moldova throughout 2024, grouping similar comments to uncover coordinated influence campaigns. The result? A chorus machine prototype that allows users to hear these deceptive narratives, making it easier to identify inauthentic actors and propaganda patterns. 📢 In an era where information warfare is reshaping global politics, initiatives like Infocry and forums like Truth to Justice are crucial for safeguarding truth and transparency. 🔹 This is a bright example of an art and AI combination that can be used for a greater purpose!
