ORR President Jessica (Wahl) Turner invites us all to imagine a future where time outside is reimbursable through health insurance.
On the heels of last week's National Executive Forum on Health and Outdoor Recreation, Turner is featured in the @axios Vitals newsletter on the opportunity for scalable insurance solutions to increase outdoor recreation as a public health intervention for all Americans.

As part our first-ever National Executive Forum on Health and Outdoor Recreation we honored Richard Louv with ORR’s Lifetime Achievement Award for a body of work that helped change how America understands the relationship between #nature, #health, and human connection.
For decades, Rich’s words — enshrined in trailblazing books like “Last Child in the Woods” and the recent release “Noticing: Intimate Encounters with the Natural World” — have reminded us that time outside is not a luxury but is essential to who we are, how we heal, and how we build stronger communities. As we work toward America’s Outdoor Era, we’re grateful for the foundation he helped build and the generations he continues to inspire to look up, step outside, and notice the world around them.

Last week, leaders from #healthcare, #outdoorrecreation, government, #philanthropy, business, and technology came together in Washington, D.C. for the first-ever National Executive Forum on Health and Outdoor Recreation.
From #publichealth systems investing in parks and #greenspaces to Outdoor Rx programs, mentalhealth and employer wellness initiatives, youth engagement, and cross-sector partnerships, the momentum behind this movement is real.
The forum also marked the launch of ORR’s America’s Outdoor Era Commitment: a call to action for organizations across the outdoor recreation economy to help make time outside part of a healthier, stronger, and more connected America.
This work is bigger than recreation. It’s about redefining how we as a country think about health, community, and quality of life. Learn more about the event and how you can get involved by visiting the link in our bio!

A powerful opening to the first-ever National Executive Forum on Health & Outdoor Recreation from ORR President Jessica Turner! 🙌🏾
Her message is clear: the future of #publichealth isn’t just in hospitals or policy rooms, it’s in #thegreatoutdoors. From parks and trails to waterways and neighborhood green spaces, building a healthier America starts with reconnecting people to the outdoors.

This week, ORR will host the first-ever National Executive Forum on Health and Outdoor Recreation, uniting outdoor recreation CEOs with CEOs from healthcare, pharmaceuticals, experts on physical and mental health, wellness, and social vitality and state and national policy makers.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) today released new annual economic data highlighting the continued strength and significant economic impact of outdoor recreation in 2024. According to the new BEA Outdoor Recreation Economic Statistics, nominal gross output for outdoor recreation totaled $1.3 trillion in 2024, marking slower but still increasing growth and demand.
🌲 ORR’s 2025 Annual Report is here.
In 2025, Outdoor Recreation Roundtable strengthened its role as the leading business coalition advancing the $1.2 trillion outdoor recreation economy and its 5 million jobs.
Together with our 80 members representing 110,000+ businesses, we translated growing participation into meaningful policy wins — from the historic signing of the EXPLORE Act to defending access to public lands, celebrating state offices of outdoor recreation, and advancing rural development strategies.
We expanded cross-sector partnerships, reinforced outdoor recreation’s economic and community health benefits, supported rural communities nationwide, and advanced technology and innovation throughout the outdoors.
As we look to 2026, we remain focused on expanding access and infrastructure, strengthening state recreation economies, advancing smart trade policy, and elevating outdoor recreation as a cornerstone of national health and resilience.
When industry, policymakers, and communities work together, outdoor recreation delivers.

Today, ORR is in front of the House Natural Resources Committee to celebrate one year of EXPLORE Act implementation and identify opportunities to ensure the transformative outdoor recreation legislation meets its fullest potential. ORR President Jessica Turner testified before the Federal Lands Subcommittee alongside ORR Members Jason Curry, Director at @utahdor , and Matt Wade, Executive Director of @amga1979 , and other leaders. #EXPLOREAct #OutdoorRecreationEconomy
One year ago, the EXPLORE Act became the first-ever outdoor recreation–specific legislative package signed into law with unanimous bipartisan support. It’s already delivering real results in just 12 months. From launching a nationwide digital America the Beautiful park pass and establishing a clear federal framework for implementation, to convening leaders at ORR’s inaugural Outdoor Recreation Technology & Innovation Summit, expanding accessible trails, and connecting more than 150,000 fourth graders to the outdoors through Every Kid Outdoors, momentum is building. Despite headwinds, progress continues—showing what bipartisan leadership and public-private collaboration can achieve. As we head into Year Two, sustained engagement across government, communities, and industry will be key to fully unlocking the EXPLORE Act’s potential. Let’s keep it going! #EXPLOREAct #OutdoorRecreationEconomy
