Orly Cogan
@orlycogan is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist working primarily in fiber, embroidery, and mixed media. Cogan’s practice centers on transforming traditional domestic textiles into intricate narrative tableaux. Working primarily with hand embroidery and vintage fabrics, she reclaims materials historically associated with women’s labor and repositions them within a contemporary feminist context. Through delicate stitching and layered imagery, her works merge craft traditions with storytelling, creating scenes that balance humor, intimacy, and subversion while exploring themes of gender, identity, and power.
Educated at The Cooper Union and the Maryland Institute College of Art, Cogan has exhibited internationally for over two decades and is recognized as a leading voice in the contemporary fiber arts movement with a strong emphasis on feminist discourse. Her work has been presented in museums and biennials, including the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, the Textile Museum of Toronto, the Hudson River Museum, and the Woodson Art Museum, among others.
