Protect our NDIS! ✊✊ Thank you to everyone who made it in person to join us in solidarity in Brisbane/Magan-djin/Meanjin today. We had 250+ people there, and it warmed my heart! Thank you for bearing witness to all our speakers, I was honoured to be one of them. Thank you in particular to our lead local organiser @orielaa for wrangling press and speakers and so much else, and sharing your story as well.
Thank you to all the other speakers today as well:
- @jodie__hall__ who stepped in as @bizzibodyx was unwell
- @kathryndenny
- @archiearsenic
- @fridayology
- @janey_britt
And thank you to the marshalls, and all the volunteers who organised today’s rally locally! And especially Nibs who couldn’t be there today because they were unwell but did so so much in the lead up.
Because of some time constraints (for a great reason, we ended up having a press conference at the start which pushed everything back), I was not able to read the statement from the Long Covid community, so please read it at the @protectourndis link in my bio. We must bear witness for those with Long Covid and ME/CFS!
We sent a message today all around the country, that disabled people will not lie down and take this. Stop the cuts! Don’t put a price on our rights!

Statement of Solidarity from Brisbane Drag, Burlesque, Ballroom and Queer Performers
04/06/2025
The Brisbane Drag, Burlesque and Queer Performing Arts Community stands with The Wickham venue’s staff, in condemning Aus Venue Co.’s decision to hold a Zionist event in a queer safe space.
These events have no place in venues our community call home.
For many queer people, nightlife venues are the first place they are able to express themselves freely. It is critical to protect our safe spaces from hate and discrimination.
By holding this event, AVC sent a message to our community, in particular the Middle Eastern queer community, that this venue may not be safe for them.
We will always fight to make our community safe, and we will not tolerate our spaces being used to promote hateful agendas.
EDIT: If you would like to cosign the statement please do so via the link in my bio. A continuously updated version of the statement will be available on The Body Count Substack.
SNAP ACTION RALLY - TODAY 5.30 PM OUTSIDE THE WICKHAM
The State Zionist Council of QLD is holding an event 6.30pm tonight at the Wickham. Performers and staff at the venue actively do not support the decision for this event to occur, and have tried tirelessly to get this event cancelled. However AVC, the venue’s parent company have repeatedly refused and are forcing the event to go ahead.
SHOW UP IN SOLIDARITY FOR THE WORKERS AND SHUT THIS EVENT DOWN!
Please note we have been notified that there will be police present at this protest. We don't expect there to be trouble with the police, and we will do everything we can to de-escalate and keep everyone safe. However, please decide for yourself whether you are comfortable attending.
