Toad (Riccardo Foschi, 2023) As soon as I've seen the new frog model by @kota_imai I fell in love with it, and I suddenly felt the urgency to design one myself. This is what I came up with after dozens of failed attempts, it's not even close to the elegance of Kota's frog but I'm happy enough. I also want to mention @rodiya53 whose bullfrog was a precious reference. It is a pity that I can't capture the back and the front in one shot, I'll probably post a few more shots from different angles to show you the back part to which I dedicated a lot of shaping time 😅 20x20cm mulberry paper #origami #sculpture #paper #frog #toad #japan #handmade

Mrs. & Mr. Gnomes. (Riccardo Foschi, 2022) Right after I designed the sitting gnome I wanted to give him a female partner, but the base I found was structured in such a way that I couldn't resist to reshape the face to make beard and mustaches. Thus, the poor sitting gnome is still missing his perfect match :D. #origami #art #paper #sculpture #gnome #christmas #nesse

Cicada 2.0 (Riccardo Foschi). I’ve always loved folding origami cicadas; they are perfect subjects to fold at 1:1 scale. They carry a deep connection to Japanese aesthetics, and they are such poetic animals! They pass most of their life in the dark underground before shedding their earthly shells to emerge with delicate wings. To me, their familiar song is more than just the relaxing soundtrack of summer; it’s a beautiful celebration of patiently accepting the passing of time in preparation for rebirth. I’ve designed a cicada before, but the folding sequence always felt needlessly complex. This time, I focused on the pure joy of the process. By stripping away unnecessary creases, I aimed for a truly minimalist design, one that captures the natural elegance of the insect through the simplest, most intentional folds possible.

Crab (Riccardo Foschi). Refold of a model from 2015. This model has the same CP of my scorpion, that's why I always liked to compare them to demonstrate how shaping alone can entirelly change the subject even when they start from the same base.

Shrimp 2.0 (Riccardo Foschi) Another revisit of a very old model of mine, I never liked the tail of that model so I took the chance to update it a bit.

Sea turtle 2.0 (Riccardo Foschi) This model is a revisit of a model of mine which is 10 years old (time flies 😬...) I'm refolding some old models for an upcoming exhibition, I wasn't planning to change anything of them, but while folding I found a nice way to colourchange its fins and update the shaping, I couldn't resist the temptation!

Bunny (Riccardo Foschi 2023) 38x38cm single square sheet of pretreated mulberry paper. Some models just go from idea to paper right off the bat, this is one of those. It took me just 3 prototypes to find a shaping which I was happy with. Maybe I'm getting less self-critical, or maybe it's just luck, nevertheless I wish all my models were this easy to design😅.
