Fair Finance Fund: Loan Applications Open April 13th
Calling all social and environmental-minded farmers and food entrepreneurs. Are you or someone you know seeking financial support to grow your business and make a positive impact in your community and beyond? The Fair Finance Fund is now accepting applications for their spring loan intake.
Started in 2019, Fair Finance Fund is Ontario’s first social finance lender dedicated to local food and farm enterprises. The Fund offers loans from $20,000 up to $200,000 for a 5-year term. Offering hands-on support from the application through the loan term, a 3-month grace period, and a fixed, low-interest rate, the Fund was created to fit the realities of food and farm enterprise development.
This Earth Month, the Fund is highlighting food and farm businesses implementing ecological and climate-conscious practices—from regenerative agriculture to low-waste production and biodiversity protection. If this sounds like you or someone you know, Fair Finance Fund wants to support your mission!
Spring Loan applications are open April 13 - May 11, 2026. To learn more and apply, visit fairfinancefund.org/apply
71.3% vs. 43.9%: Our organic pastures are holding their ground! 🛡️🌧️
Do you know what keeps your soil from washing away in the rain? It’s its soil aggregate stability. The higher it is, the better the soil resists erosion and compaction during heavy rainfall.
The @Laboratoire d'agroécologie/Agroecology Lab - Université Laval team analyzed soil from organic dairy pastures across Quebec, and the results are impressive:
✅ Our organic pastures average: 71.3%
❌ General average (1,166 fields in Quebec): 43.9% (Gauthier et al., 2023)
This major difference shows just how much perennial roots and no-till practices protect our most precious resource. A soil that "holds together" means a farm that is far more resilient to climate change! 🌍🌱

71,3 % vs 43,9 % : Nos pâturages bios ont de la tenue ! 🛡️🌧️

Let's Chat Over Coffee Next Week!
This is your chance to connect directly with the people who grow our food, hear about the realities of farming today, and learn what inspires them to keep cultivating a sustainable future. This time, we're focusing on grain!
Let's look at the lineup:
Greg Dineen is a recovering (relapsed?) engineer and enjoys the occasional dive into machinery design. He is currently leading a project with the University of Guelph on ultra low cost electric grain drying.
Dean Martin and his two sons operate Harrow Organic Farms, located in Harrow Ont. They farm 1500 acres of Certified Organic grains and oil seeds in Harrow and on Pelee Island. Dean has been a cash crop farmer in the Harrow area for 40 years and began transitioning to Organic in 2005. Dean is a University of Guelph graduate of 83A, a former director for The Seed Corn Growers of Ontario, a past speaker at the Southwest Ag Conference and the Guelph Organic Conference.
Phil Oegema transformed his 1,200-acre family farm to organic in 2012. Now, Oegema Grains grows organic crops and uses innovative tools like The Weed Zapper. Phil shares his expertise and runs an organic elevator for other farmers. As the 2024 President of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association, he promotes farmer-led solutions.
