Latest issue of Illinois Parks and Recreation Magazine highlights ORG’s rammed earth design for the Park District of Oak Park’s new Field Center. We are excited to showcase this material as it is the first of its kind to be built in the Midwest.

Continued progress at the New Field Center. The weather is finally cooperating! The rammed earth wall formwork is being painstakingly prepared with the first series of pours starting within a few weeks. #ORGincArchitecture #chicagoarchitecture #constructionupdate #oakparkil #newconstruction #rammedearth #formwork

Foundations are complete and rammed earth wall construction begins soon! The subtle radii of the walls, the rhythm of the fluted texture and the warmth of the concrete pigment are dynamic. We wanted to create tactile surfaces which invite interaction - I feel we're on the right track. #ORGincArchitecture #chicagoarchitecture #concrete #pigmentedconcrete #constructionupdate #oakparkil #newconstruction

For the New Field Center - the cement stabilized rammed earth (CSRE) mockup is installed on top of the foundation wall to complete the assembly. Nearly every critical detail is represented in some way. The rebar dowling and continuous integral insulation between CSRE and concrete, anchor bolt placement to receive the mass timber roof structure, and continuous integral nailer which receives the curtain wall. We also tested pigment strategies, reviewed edge chamfer detailing, cold joint and tie hole locations, as well as the cast-in signage. #ORGincArchitecture #chicagoarchitecture #concrete #constructionupdate #oakparkil #rammedearth #constructionupdate #oakparkil

Framing is nearing completion, and as we wait for the windows to arrive, we’ll turn our focus to the MEP trades so they can begin running their systems and keep this great momentum going! A big milestone in the New Field Center this week, as we reviewed the foundation wall assembly mock-up. This wall will carry the rammed earth above, serve as retaining wall mediating between the landscape and interior, and act as finish surface both inside and out. A few bugs to work out in casting, but a successful mockup - color and form liners look great! #ORGincArchitecture #chicagoarchitecture #concrete #constructionupdate #oakparkil

The first floor has taken shape. It's feeling generous and clean. Only the stairs up and two small cores for a bathroom and pantry will interrupt the space. Early on we pursued a zoning exemption to increase height and area and it is clearly paying off now. @formedspace - keeping up the great work. #newbuild #chicagohome #orginc #chicagoarchitect #construction

Smooth construction depends on tight coordination between concrete, framing, truss, and steel trades—each sets the stage for the next. When connections line up correctly, work flows quickly, delays are avoided, and the project stays on track. Architect : @org_inc_arch Video by : @konrad.wazny
