PASO has been demanding that ICE remove itself from the suburban communities that it serves
since that time. It is the continued presence and intimidating posture of ICE that has stoked fear
in the community and actively disrupted local businesses and the lives of state residents,
regardless of their status. Thursday’s events are a continuation of ICE agents instilling fear in our
communities.

Last week we participated with ICIRR, in the court hearing calling for a special prosecutor to investigate the injustices done during Operation Midway Blitz. Today ICIRR members attended a hearing at the Cook County Courthouse where a county judge heard arguments in favor of appointing a special prosecutor to investigate crimes committed by federal agents during Operation Midway Blitz. State’s attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke has failed to investigate the violence our communities faced at the hands of ICE, despite demands to hold ICE accountable.
When Burke refuses to hold ICE agents accountable for their lawlessness and violence against our communities, she only encourages their racist actions and behaviors. We are not and will not be intimidating into backing down from holding federal agents accountable!
The next step is a hearing on May 11, where Cook County Chief Judge Erica Reddick will announce a ruling. While we fight this battle in the courts, it’s also important that we unite and come out in numbers in support of immigrant rights on May Day to demand: abolish ice, free them all, and fund our communities, not war! Join ICIRR this May 1st!

Hoy, en el Día de Impuestos, PASO y miembros de la comunidad estamos en Springfield exigiendo que nuestros líderes protejan HBIS asegurando que las personas mayores tengan acceso a la atención médica sin importar su estatus migratorio. Today on Tax Day, PASO and community members are in Springfield demanding that our leaders protect HBIS ensuring elders have access to healthcare regardless of immigration status. Our Health Committee remains committed to advocating for healthcare for all. We’re meeting with elected officials and holding them accountable to our communities.
We are so grateful for @org.paso ’s partnership. We were able to supply them with 100 mental health kits to give to the community members they partner with.
