Una vez que descubrimos que Jazmín estaba transportando a su cría muerta, quisimos confirmar que sus dos crías más jóvenes, Morgan (PTN-036 - nacido en 2022) y Kai (PTN-038 - nacido en 2024), seguían con vida.Además, mediante el uso del dron capturamos un momento en el que las cuatro orcas estaban cerca de la superficie juntas. Auka (PTN-029 - nacido en 2016) es el hijo sobreviviente mayor de Jazmín y se encontraba cerca de su madre. Trazamos una línea que representaba la longitud de Morgan desde la punta del rostro hasta la escotadura de la aleta caudal. Utilizando esa misma longitud sobre Kai, e indicando también desde la punta hasta la escotadura, pudimos ilustrar las diferencias de tamaño entre Morgan y Kai. Así, se podía apreciar cuán pequeña era la cría más reciente en comparación con estas dos.El vuelo con dron se realizó bajo un permiso de investigación otorgado por el Ministerio de Turismo y la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente de la provincia de Chubut.
Once we had discovered Jazmin was carrying her dead calf, we wanted to confirm that her two youngest calves Morgan (PTN- 036 - born 2022) and Kai (PTN-038 - born 2024) were still alive. Additionally, with the use of the drone we captured a moment when all four orca were near the surface together. Auka (PTN-029 - born 2016) is Jazmin’s oldest surviving son and he was close by his mother. We drew a line that illustrated the length of Morgan from the tip of the rostrum to the notch in the flukes. Using the same length line over Kai and indicating the tip to the notch, we were able to illustrate the size differences between Morgan and Kai. We could see how small the newest calf was, compared to these two. We flew the drone under a research permit granted by the Ministerio de Turismo y Secretaria de Medio Ambiente of the province of Chubut
Ayer, desde aproximadamente las 8:45 hs del 30 de abril de 2026, documentamos a Jazmin (PTN-002) y a su cría recién nacida. Era muy evidente que la cría ya estaba muerta. Observamos a Jazmin desplazándose hacia el sur mientras transportaba a la cría, sujetando su aleta pectoral con la boca. Continuaba llevándola a las 14:00 hs, cuando la vimos por última vez.Nos entristeció presenciar esta situación trágica y acompañamos a Jazmin y a su familia en este momento.Este comportamiento fue documentado en video por primera vez en Argentina por PNOR. El vuelo con dron se realizó bajo un permiso de investigación otorgado por el Ministerio de Turismo y la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente de la provincia de Chubut.
Yesterday, from around 8:45 hrs on the 30th of April 2026, we documented Jasmin and her newborn calf . It was very clear that the calf was already dead. We witnessed Jasmin travelling south carrying the calf by holding its pectoral fin in her mouth. She was still carrying it at 2:00 PM when we spotted her for the last time.
We were saddened to witness this tragic situation and we feel for Jasmin and her family.

La aleta dorsal de Emyr (PTN-025), que nació en 2014, había empezado a “brotar” (crecer rápidamente) el año pasado, pero este año es aún más evidente que está creciendo y que se ha convertido en un adolescente. Hoy estuvo en Punta Norte con su madre, Valen (PTN-009), su hermana menor Solei (PTN-032, nacida en 2017) y su nuevo hermanito, nacido hace apenas unas semanas. Solei intentó capturar un cachorro de lobo marino hoy, pero no tuvo éxito. Emyr y Solei estuvieron molestando a un ave y lanzándola al aire con los golpes de sus colas. The dorsal fin of Emyr (PTN-025), who was born in 2014 had started to ‘sprout’ (grow fast) last year, but this year it is even more evident that he is growing and has become an adolescent. He was at Punta Norte today with his mother, Valen (PTN-009) and his younger sister Solei (PTN-032, born in 2017) and their new little sibling, born just a few weeks ago. A pesar de los fuertes vientos del norte y algo de oleaje más grande en la costa, hoy se vieron a Llen (PTN-010) y su hija Shotel (PTN-026) en Punta Norte. Estaban solas y no se registraron otras orcas en la zona.
Despite the strong north winds and some larger waves on the shore, Llen (PTN-010) and her daughter Shotel (PTN-026) were spotted at Punta Norte today. They were alone and no other orca were sighted in the area.

In the morning, we were able to observe several orcas in the Punta Norte area. From the photos, we can confirm that Llen (PTN-010) is pregnant (photo 1). Her abdomen is also visible during a stranding event (photo 3). We will continue to monitor her closely, as the other members of her family are doing (photo 2).
PNOR can confirm, from drone footage, that Melian is a male. He is Konke’s first calf (born 2021) and is the older brother of Machi (born 2024) who is also a male.
