ORCA (Organization for the Responsible Care of Animals) is a rescue based in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Our primary goal is to rescue any ill, injured, or in-distress stray animal. We aim to rehabilitate these animals and find loving homes for them. We also provide information on animal-related problems through our Animal-Alert Hotline, 717-397-8922. It is the purpose of ORCA to respond 24 hours a day to animal emergencies, and to provide support to police, fire, and other emergency personnel when they are dealing with situations that involve animals. While we cannot rehabilitate wildlife, we do assist in capturing and transporting injured or sick wildlife to the closest certified wildlife rehabilitation center. In 2023, we responded to 550 emergency calls!

We had some work done yesterday. Otto took it upon himself to check it out from all angles.
Otto came to us several weeks ago when he wandered into an auto repair shop with a severely injured front paw. Otto was at the vet twice for wound cleaning before it finally started to heal. His paw has fully recovered and you'd never know that just a few weeks ago he was unable to use it.

Meet Fiddle 🎻
This baby boy was found laying in the middle of someone's back yard. No litter mates or momma around. His eyes were crusted over and oozing yellow goop 🫤
Today he was seen by a vet. Fiddle is under weight, barely weighing a pound. He is only about 5 weeks old and still comfortably fits in the palm of a hand. He has been placed on antibiotics for the eye problem and the vet has cleared him to eat regular food.
Since little Fiddle will be with us for a while, we need to stock up on kitten food, both wed and dry. As we all know, growing boys eat A LOT of food!

He is a friendly man with just a touch of nonchalance. He isn't super clingy but he won't turn down a good petting either!

This is the face of a very happy rescue cat. 😍
We were called because he couldn't eat well, he was drooling, food was falling out of his mouth, and he was losing weight.
🧐 At the vet exam we learned that he has some very swollen lymph nodes making it hard for him to swallow. He is on a soft food only diet because chewing and swallowing is difficult for him. He is also on medication twice a day.
As you can see here, he loves paté! 😋 That messy nose sums up his enthusiasm.
It is easier for him to eat paté than the chunks, filets, or shreds.
If you have any kitty paté you could part with, Zig Zag would be eager to make use of it! 🍽️
Our new intake Guppy seems to enjoy helping with chores. 🧹
This little ball of love came in with a significant leg issue. An old break fused in the wrong position. She is being evaluated for potential leg amputation. It may be needed to improve her mobility and quality of life.

While Buster is a complete love bug to ALL humans, Mulan is his heart feline. He clearly has a deep affection for her, and her only, when it comes to cats.
Mulan is less outgoing and takes a little longer to warm up to the humans. She is a sweet girl that appreciates a calm and quieter environment. She enjoys semi covered areas to rest but still watch all the action.

What an amazing day! 💥The community turnout was beyond what we expected. Some of the cats thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet their neighbors and friends. Rodeo, Buster, Shimmy, and Popeye mostly. 😸
We didn't expect the donations and were pleasantly surprised! And thankful.
The opportunity to meet and speak with some fellow animal rescuers was a pleasure. We are hoping to build upon what was today started.
To everyone that came today, we are very thankful for your support and look forward to seeing you all again at the next event!
Popeye has taken charge! He made his list of expectations (displayed on the screen) and is diligently training each staff person on exactly what he wants to see happen for each and every cat in this office.
Popeye will be in-house this Saturday (April 25th, 10-4) if you would like to meet this sad eyed 🥹 handsome fellow!
