Grateful: A Dance Note to the Divine
This piece was born in less than an hour — no long rehearsals, no fancy prep. Just me, a book, a camera, and a heart full of gratitude. Dancing to Aṣa’s Grateful, I wasn’t just moving, I was remembering. I was reflecting on everything this year has brought me: the wins, the struggles, the silent battles, and the unexpected breakthroughs.
The book in my hand isn’t just a prop. It’s a symbol of everything God has done for me. Every move I make is pulled from its pages — real pages, real experiences. The line in the song says, “I’m reading from the book, everything I read is what I do,” and that’s exactly what this dance became for me. A physical response to grace.
This wasn’t a performance for the camera — this was personal. A release. A breaking free from everything that tried to hold me back — fear, doubt, people’s opinions, even my own inner voice that once told me I was “too tender for the sky.”
But I’ve come to realize that softness belongs up there too. That even gentle souls can soar. The same way the moon rules the night with quiet strength, I’m learning that vulnerability is not weakness — it’s power. It’s light.
As an artist, I create from my truth — whether I’m choreographing for a stage or dancing alone in a room. This piece is a reminder of why I move: to tell stories, to heal, to give thanks. I didn’t just dance Grateful — I lived it.
