Within seconds of Rene Tosoni getting hit, one of the most iconic brawls in baseball history erupted during the 2013 World Baseball Classic game between Canada and Mexico. Some guys were throwing haymakers, like Scott Mathieson. Others thought they were… like Chris Leroux. But Leroux had his own unforgettable moment. After the benches cleared, he turned toward the crowd and proudly pointed to the Canada name across his chest. A Mexican fan responded by firing a full water bottle at him. It missed Leroux by inches… and hit Canada’s pitching coach Denis Boucher square in the face. What looked wild on TV was even scarier on the field and the situation quickly started to spiral out of control until security and police escorts stepped in. Tomorrow, we get into what happened after the fight. The final episode drops tomorrow. DISCLAIMER: All MLB and broadcast game footage is the property of its respective copyright holders. Usually in baseball, there’s an unwritten rule: you don’t bunt when you’re already winning big. But in the World Baseball Classic, every run matters. Michael Saunders explains it best: “Anybody who knows anything about the unwritten rules of baseball… he didn’t like the fact that we laid down a bunt. You’re supposed to hit the guy on the next pitch… you get one chance.” But one chance turned into two. And then on the third pitch, Rene Tosoni gets drilled in the back. And the rest was absolute chaos. Episode 4 drops tomorrow. DISCLAIMER: All MLB and broadcast game footage is the property of its respective copyright holders. Before the iconic fight, there were the stakes. We sat down with Rene Tosoni, Scott Mathieson, Michael Saunders, and Chris Leroux to revisit the iconic Canada vs. Mexico game at the 2013 World Baseball Classic and the pressure that built before everything boiled over. Canada had just come off a tough loss to Italy that caught the team completely off guard. Suddenly the situation was simple: beat Mexico or go home. If they won, they’d move on to face a loaded Team USA roster. But international baseball works differently. In the World Baseball Classic, advancing often comes down to run differential, meaning every run matters. Teams aren’t just trying to win…they’re trying to score as many runs as possible to stay alive. On top of that, when you put on that jersey, you’re no longer playing for the name on the back. You’re playing for name across the front and that changes everything. Because in Major League Baseball, there are unwritten rules. One of them being: you don’t bunt when you’re already winning big. But in the World Baseball Classic, those rules don’t always apply. Episode 2 drops tomorrow DISCLAIMER: All MLB and broadcast game footage is the property of its respective copyright holders. As a baserunner, there’s nothing better than taking the extra 90 ft 😮‍💨 Lefty at the plate, infield shifted, the entire left side crashes for the bunt. This gives you an opportunity to take the extra bag. Plays like this win baseball games 🔥 Take your game to the next level with the OTU Elite Curriculum. Good communication is crucial at every level of baseball. The first baseman, second baseman, and pitcher all do a great job executing this play. Ball hit to the right side—pitchers should always break to first to cover the bag. As the second baseman, you’ve got the better angle to the ball than the first baseman, so be confident calling him off. Great job of letting it go for the second baseman to make the play. Plays like this look simple, but without communication they get messy fast. Great execution from the Longhorns. Master the details like this with the OTU Elite Curriculum. This breakdown is simple 👇🏻👀 As the shortstop, you’re the captain of the infield. You take charge on pop-ups and have priority over everyone—except the center fielder. Nothing drives a coach crazier than miscommunication on pop-ups. Good teams capitalize on mistakes like this… and the Yankees did exactly that. If you want to command the field and never have breakdowns like this, tap into the OTU Elite Curriculum—link in bio. #baseball #baseballdrills #mlb #baseballlife #growthegame
