This is the moment. The last song of my first ever US show. Giant gold chain & all I was as fresh as it gets!! Cervantes Denver 2010. The energy was palpable from the first drop - pure sweaty insanity. Little ol me flying on the seats edge verging on the wildest changes in my life. I’d never even spoken on a microphone before. So when Eprom handed me one to say what’s up at the end of my set I had no idea what to do, & I politely passed. I played nothing but my own music (I thought everyone did back then) which I’d made in my little outdoor shack in Melbourne, hoping it would be received as intended in a new far off land (that looked just like the movies!)… Well, safe to say it was 💜
Here we are all these moons later & I want nothing more than to feel that exact feeling again. Playing the music I played back then. The world was a very different place, & our collective art felt just as important. So let us take it aaaaaall the way back as the THROWBACK SET is a gooo!!! May 14 at Cervantes… where it all began x
it has been years since i attended a festival for more than a few hours, camped in a tent on site, danced all day long to incredible sets alongside my wife & so many friends, stayed up til my belly hurt from laughing & my legs could no longer walk, & sat around daily talking shit as the sun rose or set.. this is where I came from & honestly this is what fuels my adoration of this culture. & it was sooo fucking needed. i even ran 4kms each morning just to switch it up.. ya know, new year new me... 😜
to top it off i dropped a set sprinkled with new & some slightly experimental tunes to a reaction i could have only ever dreamt of. i was honestly unsure how it went down when i walked off stage. to hear from so many it was your favourite set of mine you’ve ever seen was actually surreal but it really cemented it. a feeling that won’t be forgotten.
