Open Mic Night SEASON 3 SPECIAL EPISODE 2 🎬 🎭🎤🩵 We are excited to announce that this week’s feature will be AledaKasey!!!! 🤩 @aledakasey A Two-Spirit, neurodiverse Neyihow iskwew from Sweetgrass First Nation, bringing 20+ years of professional experience as a multidisciplinary artist and storyteller. At Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company (SNTC), she co-wrote and performed in Journey (2003), Ensembula, The Alley, Askiy (The Land), and Love Songs from a War Drum. As a CAEA stage manager, her credits include Globe Theatre productions Death and the Maiden, Elephant Wake, Anne of green Gables) and Festival, Antigonish Summer Theatre repertory season (Dead Guilty, Intimate Exchanges), and touring productions across Western Canada with SNTC. A powerful voice on stage and page, she competed as a storm poet at the 2023 and 2024 Canadian individual Poetry slam and completed an intensive playwright residency at Sage Hill writing 2024 playwriting lab. Her screen work includes producing shorts, directing youth - focused, film, projects, mentoring, emerging creators, capturing compelling visuals for events and campaigns, and some contributions on camera for film and television projects. Through her artistry and facilitation, AledaKasey continues to use storytelling as a tool for healing, advocacy, and transformation. Open Mic Night SEASON 3 SPECIAL EPISODE 1 🎬 🎭🎤🩵 We are excited to announce that this week’s feature will be Holly Flauto!!!! 🤩 @hollyflauto Holly Flauto (she/they, is a poet, storyteller, learner and instructor living and writing on the traditional, ancestral and stolen territories of the x”ma®kwayam, Skwxwú7mesh and Selilwitulh Nations. Their debut poetry-memoir collection, Permission to Settle (Anvil Press) was named as one of CBC Books Best Canadian Poetry of 2024. In the book, the blanks from the application for Permanent Residency are filled in with a series of memoir-based poems that investigate the implicit biases in the colonial system of boxes and check marks that still seek to categorize “the other” and to harness it in the face of reconciliation. Holly’s fiction and creative memoir has previously been published in The Ex-Puritan, Joyland, and The Rusty Toque, and they perform as Stella Palermo on the local story and poetry slam stages. Holly teaches creative and academic writing in the English department at Capilano University. A third generation settler, her poetry explores themes of transition, transformation and transgression. She is famous for being the only famous woman who doesnt know how famous she is. Whether journaling thoughts, writing poetry, crafting song lyrics, or short essays, she is constantly jotting down jokes, antidotes and philosophies on life while an ongoing memoir is in need of polishing and publishing.
