Hello Everyone, if you don't know already, we are Open Envelope. We are a postal art collective which was created in February 2024. At Open Envelope, our mission is clear: we're here to connect artists through the sharing of work. Our goal is to inspire and foster a strong creative network among like-minded individuals. We have members across the UK, including; Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Huddersfield and London. We have also started to get people involved in Vienna. On the 1st of the month, a new brief comes out in our monthly newsletter. You have the next 25 days to explore and create 1-3 works which fit into an A5 envelope. On the 20th of the month, we will send a reminder to post your work as well as the address to send the work. If you are interested in becoming a member of Open Envelope, there is a signup form in our bio. DM us with any questions !! Illustration made by @gemmacatherinetextiles

October Open Envelope Theme - Reflections Olivia’s work @olivia.gigerich Artists Statement “For the theme “Reflections”, I explored the layers of reflections: from the background and reflecting layer to the reflections themselves. While experimenting, I found transparent paper suitable for mimicking the layers of the reflections in my process, by painting in both sides. The layers interact beautify when held to the light.”

November Open Envelope Theme - Traces left behind Eve Bennett, Zoology 3rd year at Glasgow university Artist Statement “Patterns we make and follow. I decided to take quite a broad approach to the subject this month, looking at the way in which humans have created paths as a means to access nature. In any aspect, to appreciate the natural world we have to leave traces behind - this is just what anthropogenic behaviour entails. It’s a dilemma of changing environments from being untouched to places clearly impacted by human activity as a benefit to oneself. It’s something I think a lot about through my degree - we analyse and take so much from the environment to (hopefully) benefit ourselves and the future scientifically - but this still leaves traces behind. “

Open Envelope October Theme - Reflection @i.draw.monkeys Liz Melchor is a Vienna-based artist specialising in drawing and pen plotting. Artist Statement:" I read the prompt “reflection” and thought to take a file I already have and reflect it (I draw with robots; the beauty of reflecting lines in a digital file is it only requires one click). But a reflection alone seemed quite mundane, so I added what we normally see reflections in the water. The drawing robot or pen plotter thus drew the exact same lines reflected but on the top on dry paper and on the bottom through a puddle of water. Order on the top (boring?) and mess on the bottom (beautiful or ugly, I can’t decide), both the same and yet both different." If you are interested in becoming a part of the Open Envelope Art collective, there is a sign-up link in our bio. We aim to connect artists through the exchange of work across Europe.

October Open Envelope Theme- reflections @bo.kochane @bo.kochanephotography @bos.bits.nd.bobs 2nd year at Manchester School of Art, Textiles Artists Statement “This months theme of reflection boded well with my own personal practice, as I have currently been looking into distorted visual components and sight Impairments. However, for these pieces I decided to hone in, reflecting in a more personal manner. I used a selection of 35mm film photos I have taken over the past two years, meshing the past and the present. The use of acetate, a material providing transparency allows for a more fluid transition of one image to weave through another. However, the use of straight cut, traditional weaving methods, creating solid blocks of ambiguity distorts and evokes change and difference, an important part in acknowledgement and an active element of reflection.”

Open Envelope October @barnabywessell Theme - Reflections Painting and Printmaking year 2 Artists statement “After an accidental summer hiatus from the fabulous open envelope postal collective I’m very happy to be back. Been doing lots of coloured pencil recently - mostly for the skill of colour pairings in painting but I’ve found the medium has really lovely way of thinking baked into it. It’s very fun to explore the world in that palette of bright crayons. They started off taking for ever to complete but are a bit faster now. This is a fountain in a park - tried to capture the water using negative space giving up halfway in.” #glasgowschoolofart

@adam.charlesworth.is.cool @adam.charlesworth.likes.art October Open Envelope Theme - Reflections Adam is a second-year student at Manchester School of Art in the Illustration and Animation course. Artist Statement: "For this month, I made a zine called 'Reflections of October', which is a series of oil pastel sgraffito prints of moments or things that I have done this month. The prompt 'reflections' made me think about internal reflection, especially on how I spend my time and the things that have brought me joy this month, so everything in the zine is something that has made me happy."

Open envelope October Theme - reflection Allegra Lavinia Fleur 3 A5 prices, 2 on paper on canvas. Acrylic paint, ink, watercolour and pencil crayon Akademie Bildender Künste Wien - Contextual Malerei Artist Statement: “For this month, I worked from a photo of me in the window reflection of a train while I was going down to London to collect my visa. I did a drawing at the time and really liked how it came out. This month's theme reinitiated my exploration of this photo. I made these 3 study thinking about doing a larger painting based on the photo. I also made a little letter from old sheet music😊”
