„Ma usun ihasse“ on kirekirjadesse peitunud hommage. Kartau jutustab viis aastat kestnud romantilise kinnismõtte loo ja seob sellega tagasi Eestisse kolimise, loovinimeseks kasvamise ja eesti kultuuriväljal tegutsemise kogemusi. Mis on ühist ihal ja loovimpulsil? Milliseid filosoofilisi mõistmisi leidub räpases, lihases inimkogemuses, eriti naisena? Kui kaugele võib jõuda puhta projektsiooniga? Toimetaja Saara Liis Jõerand Tõlketoimetaja Paul Raud Graafiline disain Emma Reim Raamatuga (peaaegu) samaaegselt tuleb välja samanimeline etenduskunstietos, mille esietendus on juba sel nädalal (14.05). #dimitrakationi #loomadtaimed #karoliinakagovere #liisirünkla #opapublishing opa luule poetry

Join us next Thursday in Tallinn for the English launch of Radical Runosong at Rüütel & Matilda. Your favorite queer/amateur folklorists Vaim Sarv and Mia Tamme will be in conversation and song. They will discuss the intimate and bodily aspects of traditional practices such as runosong and sift through the alternatively gendered life experiences they have encountered in the archives. Working together in love and relation for the past two years, Vaim and Mia will touch upon the nourishing friction of an entangled creative process that rubs up against the professional individualism rampant in the fields of art, culture, and academia. Extending this friction outwards, they will explore the intricacies of working critically with Estonian folklore in an effort to establish fugitive, uplifting connections between decolonial and anticapitalist struggles around the world. We are excited to be having this book launch in Helsinki next week at @pp.kirjakauppa with Vaim Sarv and Amanda Kauranne. They will sing together and talk about their work with runosong, tracing connections between Estonian and Finnish traditions through a decolonial and queer feminist perspective. Vaim's book Radical Runosong is about land and kin, dispossession and desire, solidarity and silence. It is a critical celebration of the oral tradition of runosong, a style of singing which has been practiced for centuries by Baltic Finnic peoples on the land now called Estonia and elsewhere. Featuring conversations with singers and folklorists Anne Türnpu, Andreas Kalkun, and Janika Oras, the compiled texts enact a fugitive search for historical consciousness by drawing upon the wealth of alternative vocal and somatic practices embedded in runosong. Working against the grain of Estonian nationalism and its Eurocentric tendencies, this involves mapping and resisting the ways in which divergent bodies, selves, and forms of physical sociality have been disciplined through the interplay of brutality and privilege inherent to modernization. The book is a provocation, but one born out of love and a sense of obligation to the ancestors.

I've been hard at work on this book for the past year and am so excited for it to be out in the world soon via @opa_publishing .
