Originarias de Cuba, las guajiras son una forma popular de música flamenca que llegó a España a través de los lazos coloniales a los bares y burdeles urbanos de La Habana. Por esta razón, se las denomina “cantes de ida y vuelta”. Destacadas por sus melodías y movimientos sensuales, las guajiras celebran una versión más juguetona y romántica del flamenco, en contraste con su contraparte más sobria y profunda que se encuentra en el “cante jondo”. A pesar de que hoy en día las guajiras se consideran una forma coreográfica elegante interpretada en tablaos y teatros, muchos aún desconocen la profunda influencia que la cultura queer, el trabajo sexual y el entorno urbano han tenido en este popular estilo musical. No es de extrañar que las raíces de algunas de las contribuciones más negras al flamenco también resulten ser bastante queer. Esta es una verdad que debemos afirmar constantemente. Donde hay negritud, hay rareza. Y la cultura comienza en la intersección de ambas. El sábado 10 de mayo te invitamos a experimentar estas guajiras a través de su historia queer. Disfrutarás de una actuación musical en vivo, algo de historia y una noche mágica para celebrar nuestra existencia y nuestro impacto en la cultura.
