In The Rabbit Always Dies, filmmaker Oona Taper (@oonataper ) presents an experimental documentary revealing the facts and fantasies of pregnancy testing from the 1930s to the 60s, a period that relied on the use of live frogs and rabbits. Oona Taper creates installations and animations that are invested in the materiality of moving images to create tactile and embodied experiences for the viewer. Her work responds to current and historical events with whimsy and daydreams to contend with the constant mundane apocalypses of the modern world. Her work looks at people as decentralized parts in larger systems, examining how humans are embedded in complex networks with other animals, competing ideologies, and infrastructure. A graduate of the SMFA/Tufts and SAIC, she currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Animation at the Kansas City Art Institute. #OddsAndEnds #ExperimentalDocumentary #Animation #OonaTaper #LighthouseStudio #FilmFestival #ScientificHistory #AnalogScience #WomenInFilm

Looking through my 2016 camera roll and this production photo reminded that 2016 is when I started making my first animated short. . . . Also I'm pretty sure I still have that plant, so that's cool too.

Feeling so grateful that I've gotten to be inspired and supported by so many wonderful artists in Chicago. Sunday at @nonationartlab was so stunning, meaningful and sweet. I couldn't have asked for a better audience to share my film and book with. It felt very full circle to share a stage with some of the first people I met in the city. @johanna__brock and I move out of Chicago in a few weeks. It was an absolutely ideal send off to get to share our art on the same night. Im so lucky to have such a talented, creative partner. ✨️✨️✨️All the love for everyone who performed or came to watch ✨️✨️✨️

I am finally releasing the artist book I started working on more than three years ago. The Rabbit Always Dies is a sister peice to the film of the same name. It contains frames from the film, a more poetic version of the narative, and other risograph printed materials. I wanted to have a release party this summer, but because of my injury I haven't bound as many as I would like. There will be a few available at the show on sunday and more soon! ( I injured my arm with too much animating and now I can't do fine motor things for a while) The book is an edition of 100 and for sale for $42. Images: 1+3- The completed book 2 - Part of the printing process, one of the risograph layers 4- A life drawing done with my left hand.

Hi friends! I have life updates to share! I've accepted an assistant professor job at Kansas City Art Institute. I'm moving in August. Do you know anyone or anything cool in KC? Send me recommendations and connections! Chicago buddies! Do you wanna help me celebrate? I'm going to get drinks at Whirlaway in Logan on Wednesday, probably around 8. Please join! Trying to intentionally celebrate: even tho this is super cool, its also a major life change and I've felt more of the stress than the excitement at this point. Also just trying to hangout a lot this summer! So hit me up :) First pic is immediately after my interview, everything else are pictures from the 4 total days I've spent in or around KC.
