JOMAD! Because ART is colorful!
Through this interplay, JOMAD transforms lived experience into visual language, situating her figures within environments that evoke memory, reflection, and personal transformation.
A key aspect of her visual vocabulary is what the artist describes as âexperimental repetition.â Recurring floral motifs and rhythmic color structures create a sense of continuity across her compositions, evoking the layered echoes of memory and emotional experience. Through these repeating patterns, her paintings develop a dynamic tension between familiarity and transformation, where the vitality of nature and the presence of the human figure coexist in an evolving narrative of identity and resilience.
Few weeks for discovering her universe in INNER GARDENS duo show.

Blooming Souls: The Poetic Portraits of OLIVER OKOLO
ââââ-
In this new series, Oliver Okolo deepens his exploration of contemporary portraiture through intimate compositions where flowers become silent protagonists within the narrative.
Each work presents figures suspended between contemplation and memory, surrounded by a warm, almost spiritual atmosphere. The golden sunflowers and delicate violet blooms are not merely decorative elements; they emerge as symbols of transformation and sensitivity. The gaze of each subject, direct, calm, and profoundly human reveals the emotional connection that defines Okoloâs pictorial universe.
With remarkable technical sensitivity, the artist merges references from classical European painting with a contemporary African vision. Oliver Okolo uses light, texture, and psychological detail to construct portraits of striking emotional depth. His ornamental backgrounds and carefully balanced color palettes create a sense of timeless elegance, while the floral presence introduces softness, vulnerability, and vitality.
Okoloâs practice is distinguished by his innovative hybrid technique: hyper-realistic faces rendered with meticulous precision coexist with looser, expressive brushwork in the bodies and backgrounds, creating a unique visual tension between realism and painterly expression. This material and conceptual fusion reflects what the artist describes as âClassical Contemporalism,â a visual language where past, present, and future exist in harmony.
Through these new works, Oliver Okolo continues to redefine contemporary African portraiture, creating figures that seem to exist beyond time poetic subjects who confront the viewer with honesty and invite reflection on beauty, identity, and humanity.

In your opinion, which African pavilions are absolutely unmissable at the 2026 Venice Biennale?
More than ever, the African pavilions are emerging as one of the defining forces of this yearâs Biennale. Through powerful curatorial visions, immersive installations, and bold artistic voices, they are reshaping contemporary narratives and drawing the international art worldâs attention toward the continent. For collectors, museums, and foundations, Venice has become an essential platform to discover the artists who are already shaping the future of major private and institutional collections.
This growing presence also reflects the maturity and global influence of contemporary African art scenes. African pavilions are no longer simply national representations â they have become major spaces for cultural dialogue, curatorial innovation, and artistic experimentation. OOA Gallery proudly celebrates this momentum and remains committed to supporting and promoting African artists on the international stage.

On the occasion of the African World Heritage Day, Tropical Rainforest (2024) by Miska Mohmmed stands as a sensitive and contemporary celebration of the continentâs natural landscapes.
This semi-abstract work, part of a series dedicated to African environmentsâsavannas, waterways, vegetationâreflects a deep immersion in the ecosystems that shape the identity of the land. Through a vibrant palette and an organic composition, the artist conveys the richness and complexity of living systems.
The connection to African world heritage is particularly strong here. Miska Mohmmed explores the essential relationship between humans and nature, highlighting landscapes inspired by Sudan and the Nile. Earth, water, air, and vegetation intertwine in a fluid vision that evokes the interdependence of natural elements.
His work resonates with the core mission of UNESCO: to preserve, promote, and transmit natural heritage, which represents not only ecological wealth but also cultural and symbolic value for future generations.
Thus, Tropical Rainforest goes beyond landscape representationâit becomes a living memory of African heritage, an invitation to contemplate, protect, and honor these vital territories.

ANGĂLE ETOUNDI ESSAMBA
A new chapter at OOA GALLERY!
We are pleased to announce that OOA GALLERY will represent Angèle Etoundi Essamba from May 1st, 2026. A Cameroonian-born, Amsterdam-based artist, Essamba has, over more than four decades, established herself as a defining voice in contemporary African photography. Her work articulates a singular visual language at the intersection of portraiture, identity, and the representation of Black womanhood, combining formal rigor with profound human presence.
Essambaâs work has been exhibited extensively across Europe, Africa, and the United States, and is held in major international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. A significant moment in her career came with her participation in the Venice Biennale, marking Cameroonâs inaugural presence and further affirming her position within the global contemporary art landscape.
For art collectors, museums, foundations and art lovers, Angèle Etoundi Essambaâs work offers both aesthetic clarity, historical resonance and proposes something essential: a space in which portraiture becomes an act of recognitionârestoring complexity, presence, and agency to those who have too often been seen otherwise.

The public response to the recent Tatler cover featuring @oluwoleomofemi â s commissioned portrait of Prince William has revived a recurring question around portraiture: should a painted portrait simply record, or should it also interpret? Tatler presents the work as the cover image for its June 2026 issue.
For us, the answer is clear. Great portraiture is not limited to transcription. It constructs presence. It shapes perception. It allows the artistâs visual language to enter into dialogue with the subject.
Beyond the noise of social media, what stands out above all is the recognition of @oluwoleomofemi âs artistic hand: the elegance of his composition, the vitality of his painterly surface, and the singular sensibility he brings to portraiture.
This moment is also a reminder of the continuing relevance of painting as a space of interpretation, rather than mere imitation.
