All I’ve ever asked for is the keys. Give me the keys to a place with big walls and tell me “do whatever you want.” Two women my own age-younger actually-did just that. So 4.5 weeks later I delivered on a space that feels so good, you could drift off and take an afternoon nap in it despite it being abuzz with people. The art sells. The child sleeps. The puppy learns to greet people without jumping up. And the artist, in a room where the walls, the tables, the art she made all come alive, can only stare at her daughter sleeping through it all.
MAGIC MIRROR I
30x30”
23.7k gold, glass, wood and plaster
I plastered this wall with Tadelakt then frescoed it. I plastered this custom made frame and water gilded and reverse enamel painted the mirror glass. I really love being a monster, SO much fun! Seeing your reflection in pure gold surrounded by cascading blossoms is a basic human right. Come gaze at how beautiful you are. Opening friday. @lemonadestandjacksonville
Rare photo of MONSTER. Hello, my name is Dawn. I have been working and crafting with my hands for nearly 43 years, professionally for 24. I design and build lighting pieces, furniture, playgrounds. I am a master shade maker and master plasterer. I didn’t go to art school. I came from nowhere. I carve marble and I’ve sculpted in bronze. I can perfectly roast a chicken and potatoes. I only drive manual cars. I don’t own or use a computer. I write every day. I love trees and rocks and stars and horses. Most of all, and best of all, I’m the mother to Violet Viper-by far the best thing I ever made. I built a world for her using my own two hands and my wit, and I’m damn proud of it. Always bet on yourself. Give it up or give it everything. Enjoy the ride.
BOWS FOREVER
30x30”
sold
This piece was almost like a proof of concept for an entire bedroom where the walls are inlaid, frescoed, and layered in different styles of vintage and antique ribbons sculpted and tied into bows. Because the bedroom is part of an NDA project 🙄 I can’t show photos of the finished room but even at 30”, I think you begin to realize the scale possible. I DO consider ribbons and bows “girly” and I’m here for it. Women and textiles have been here all along. Here is an artifact in stone that says we will be here for many generations to come as well. What they don’t write about us in the history books you can still gleen from a beautiful silk gross grain ribbon tied into a voluminous shape by a woman’s caring hands.
If you want this piece hit me up…though I’m considering keeping this one…something I NEVER DO but, BOWS! 🤍
