Came really close to trading this Tokai SG Jr toward a Fender Jazz Bass recently. Then I spent some time playing my Thunderbird and realized something… I don’t really have the itch to play bass anymore.
So the Tokai got a stay of execution. Funny thing is, the second I decided to keep it, I started playing it nonstop again.
There’s something about a single P90 and a loud amp that strips everything down to the essentials. No distractions. No hiding. Just your hands, the volume knob, and whatever comes out.
Sometimes a guitar reminds you why you bought it in the first place.

@leftofthedialguitars I’ve always had quite the dislike, aka disdain for Gibson.
Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, here’s an Epiphone!
It ain’t just any Epiphone. This is the first solidbody Epiphone released after they were bought out by Gibson. This one was listed as a late 50’s Coronet, which were first manufactured in 58.
Now that I’ve had a little bit of time to think about it. I’m not sure if my disdain is for Gibson (same goes for Fender) or it’s players. The people that need a fresh pair of underpants after encountering a reissued gold top hanging up on a shop wall as they step passed 10 amazing unique guitars to get to that one G or F that was made with about as much love as a worker at McDonalds gives to the cheeseburger they’re assembling.
In saying this, if you go through my posts you’ll see 2 Gibson’s that are mine. Fucking hypocrite.

My Gibson Les Paul Junior. A standard American production line model from 2019. Nothing fancy, but a lovely playing, rock solid, instrument.
I’ve given it a few cosmetic tweaks here and there and I installed a Faber bridge (lightweight compensated tailpiece and locking studs) to correct the common issues with the stock Gibson hardware. It also has a nice 50’s wiring loom with a Luxe Bumblebee.022mf PIO cap, and matched 500k pots.
When I think of Junior players, first and foremost for me is Mick Ralphs from his days in Mott, obviously Leslie West... but todays song is from Blackberry Smoke, who I’ve been enjoying a lot lately, Charlie Starr a massive Les Paul Junior devotee.
