This was the first time I ever met tWitch. I showed up on set not knowing exactly what I was going to be doing, only that I was booked as Ellen’s double. Upon arrival I was asked to choreograph, stage, teach my partner, and film a little number… in about an hour. And this included the fitting and HMU. I was 😳😰 Then they said… oh and tWitch will be the one dancing with you! I said Amaaazing— but low key was like oh shit! Of course, I knew who he was. Of course, I was a huge fan.
When we met backstage, he had the biggest smile on his face and said “Hey! I’m tWitch!” And I said “oh I know! Hi, I’m Leah!” And he said “oh I know!!” And then we both laughed. I flat out told him I was a bit nervous to just do this on the spot and he immediately replied “If there’s anyone that can do it, it’s you.” 🥹 And I immediately understood the light that was Stephen. His calm was my comfort. His energy was my inspiration. All the pressure I initially felt, just floated away. And as soon as I walked out in that wig, we laughed for a solid 3 minutes. It was just so bad, it was great.
We ran it once & then it was time to film… I made a joke right as the music began and said “Wait, how does it start?” He shook his head, laughed, and said “LET’S GET IT Lay Lay!” I have carried this moment with me over the years. For someone I had never met before, to bring so much peace, and provide such encouragement in what could have been such a stressful moment, just shows how bright tWitch’s light was.
Stephen was such a force in this industry. He created lanes that I’m sure many of us didn’t even know were possible. He had a way of just letting others shine, while he himself was never dimmed. He truly was the “smile spreader.” From now until forever, we will celebrate you
