I spent years trying to be understood in places not made for me.
Honestly, lucky to still be alive.
This period of my life was called ‘The Slow Sewercide.’

TB to this poem at @onenightslam , because every child, everywhere, deserves the right to live, to laugh, to play, to feel safe, to grow old. Not some children. Not children with the “correct” or “right” passport. Every child.
The UN didn’t write these articles for decoration. They exist because history has shown us what happens when the world looks away. They exist because children should never be buried beneath politics, silence, occupation or war.
And all children have rights
The right to life. The right to protection. The right to play. To come home.
And it’s important that we keep talking. Because silence has never protected the innocent, and forgetting has never prevented history from repeating itself.
We cannot forget what is happening. And we cannot ignore what might happen next.

Recently stopped by at One Night Slam last month during autism awareness month and performed my very first spoken word piece.
- Carrying the Burden of the Mask
A poem that explores the mask I wore for much of my life to fit in a society that wasn’t and still isn’t made for us.

Dedicating this to anyone and everyone who’s ever been made to feel like their feelings are too much. Feeeeel it all people!! It’s a bloody blessing.
“The thing with feeling pain as acutely as my bare skin feels the rain is that when I feel the opposite I feel it the same way”
Thank you again @onenightslam !!

Thanks @tyronelewiscreative@tyronelewis22 for the lovely clicks and organising this like always.
“Dragon mom” is the first poem I wrote in adulthood and it poured out of me. I wept as I wrote it and still choke up on certain lines. I’ve shared pieces of it with my mom but she’s not ready to hear the whole piece just yet. Hopefully one day she will see the woman that I see.
I had the honour of sharing this poem at @onenightslam in London last month. It was my first time slamming and my second ever time sharing my poetry. Endlessly thankful to @tyronelewiscreative for their incredible camera work! 🙏
