Another PNG offering from a relationship formed during our 2024 origin visit with @croptocup . Papua New Guinea is a challenging origin to source fully traceable coffees, especially from a single farmer or producer. We’re thrilled to feature one from Peter Seed. Fittingly named for coffee farming, Peter inherited his land from his father, and he farms it with both his immediate and extended family.
Peter is dedicated to producing high quality coffee, and we’re committed to finding producers like him in Papua New Guinea, an area where coffees are usually purchased for their low price tag. Crop to Cup wants to build something different, identifying smallholders throughout the Highlands that are eager to do something special.
Coffee isn’t just for after dinner.

One of two new coffees from Papua New Guinea. This medium roast lot comes from the Waingar Cluster Group in the Chimbu Province of PNG. We visited this community in 2024 with @croptocup with the goal to disperse equipment and educational material (temperature guns, moisture meters, shade nets, and a processing protocol handbook courtesy of @christopherferan ) to improve drying practices throughout the smallholder network Crop to Cup works with. This coffee is the first result of the Waingar Cluster Group attempting to "slow dry" their coffee on raised beds with shade. Waingar Village is also the location of our first targeted "Smallholder Fund" program. Funds were raised to bring fresh water to the village for both coffee processing and drinking water.
We're thrilled at the success of the new slow drying method, as the coffee has gained complexity, better shelf stability by improving water activity, and a much sweeter cup profile.

Our first coffee from Timor-Leste (East Timor). This naturally processed coffee is from smallholders in the region of Ermera.
Although Timor-Leste is a new addition to One Line, the island’s coffee industry is rich with historical importance. Most notably for the discovery of the Timor Hybrid in 1927.
This natural cross between the Arabica and Robusta (Canephora) species was an improbable event given the genetic differences between the two species. This Hybrid provided future generations of coffee growers with a durable and disease-resistant genetic parent, which could be bred with other Arabica varieties and cultivars to produce workhorse cultivars. Some of these cultivars like Sarchimor and Catimor are present in this coffee, along with the Timor Hybrid itself.
Apricot, Cocoa Powder, Cherry, and Licorice. This sweet and approachable natural is a great coffee to enjoy the marriage between the tradition and history of Timor-Leste, with modern specialty processing techniques and rigorous quality standards.
@coastlinecoffeecooh is one of those places that instantly relaxes you the second you walk in. I could spend all day there, and I am always figuring out when I can make the drive over.
