Marcel Faas, Warehouse Manager at Lineage's Lelystad, Europe site, speaks about Badr and Maher Haroun, two brothers who escaped Syria and have become key contributors to the team and culture at Lineage.
"From the moment I met them, they were locked in, fully focused – I knew they were going to do great things. Even though they barely understood Dutch, they jumped in ready to learn and fully committed.
They started as operators, just like everyone else. Same shifts, same tasks, same expectations. But they were always looking for ways to improve. They'd come to me with ideas, Marcel, if we add another forklift here and run it this way, we can double what we move in an hour.'
Badr is vocal, direct and he naturally steps into the foreground, part of why he grew into a team leader role – he’s not afraid to speak up and take initiative. Maher is calm, steady and extremely reliable. He’s the kind of person you can always count on, and he plays a key role in keeping things stable and consistent on the floor.
The way Lineage has supported them as a team has been amazing. We made sure they could work closely together and focused on creating an environment where they could each grow at their own pace. What they’ve given back in return is huge – respect, commitment and a real sense of ownership in their work. They’ve become fully integrated into the team and the wider organization and are highly respected by everyone.
