Putting neon on vintage sports gear: round 2. This one’s personal.
These old Jarvinen XC skis are from my childhood, definitely used by someone taller than me at some point. They’ve spent the last 20 years sitting around the house, just waiting for the right assignment. After countless laps around our 20 acres growing up, giving them a new life like this felt pretty fitting.
For this piece, I used red, white, and blue LED neon to keep that classic vintage ski feel alive while giving them a new glow. Huge shoutout to Florence (my @onefinitycnc ) for carving the cleanest channels for the lights like it always does.
To finish this piece off, I flame polished the edges of the polycarbonate for a little extra shine. The secret is using a really small flame and just enough heat to make the edges glow without melting everything into a science experiment.
And if you’ve got a pair of old skis collecting dust that deserve the neon treatment, let me know. I’m always down to give vintage gear a second life.
