Mmm, I cannot get enough of Basil’s fleece! Basil is one of my favorites in my flock of Shetland sheep: long staple, soft, and lofty wool with a personality to match. 🥰 And I have so much thanks for Laura @oneanotherfibermill who generously offered fiber pick ups at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival over the weekend. I can’t wait to have some of this washed & carded wool roving ready for you to spin! ✨ Don’t forget, Market starts this Friday! #susquehannavalleygrowersmarket #downtownlewisburg #lewisburgpa #shetlandsheep #wearwool
Gotland wool:
picked fluff to carded roving to spun yarn
I met up with the shepherd at the PA Farm Show in January to pick up the raw wool after watching the Fleece to Shawl event and now I'm packing the yarn to deliver back to them at Maryland Sheep & Wool while I wander and check out all the amazing vendors and of course shop the fleece sale! Looking forward to such a lovely weekend squishing yarn & petting sheep!
I'll be at Maryland Sheep&Wool this coming Saturday! It's become a spring rhythm that I look forward to. Limited fiber pickup is available - get in touch!
Spring flowers are here & hopefully will survive the coming frosts to produce fruit.
I don't have any sheep to shear, but my dog is enjoying her spring haircut!
Looking for some Friday reading material? Check out PA Fibershed's Zine! I know it's been out for a little while now, but it took me some time to take the time to read through all the articles... and no surprise, but it's good stuff! Now I'm off to find all the authors on social media and follow them so I can see more of the amazing things happening here in Pennsylvania.
Thank you @pafibershed for sharing our stories and helping us connect with others.

Only 5 weeks away! I love the concept behind this event & am super excited to be part of it!
Fiber pickup will be available for any western Pennsylvania shepherds and fiber artists wanting to process their wool. In fact, I'd love to get feedback from folks on whether a fall delivery/pickup trip would be desirable.
I used to live in a city that had a "Running of the Goats" - so I love this tie-in to past memories.
Running of the Wools

Some days it's enjoying the luscious wool that I get to process, sinking my hands (& my face!) into it. Other days it's working on machinery and getting a grease other than lanolin on my hands and laughing out loud at the absurdity of loosening a bolt put on by stronger muscles than mine... but I did it!

We’re excited to launch Meet the Makers, a new monthly virtual Lunch & Learn series spotlighting the people and businesses shaping our regional fiber economy.
Join us for behind-the-scenes conversations with the farmers, mills, designers, and innovators building a regenerative textile system right here in Pennsylvania.
We’re kicking off the series with Laura Fitzmorris of @oneanotherfibermill , who will share her journey into fiber milling and what it takes to process regional fiber, from raw fleece to finished yarn, while supporting farmers and brands within a local system.
Bring your lunch, log in, and learn with us.

With running my own business, there’s some thought to be put into the rhythms that I want to include in planning out the year. And in this perpetual winter that we’re in (I haven’t seen the grass in my yard since December), I am missing the shorter winters of the south where I lived for many years.
So I’m making plans to run down to North Carolina – to visit my sheep-farming cousin who instigated my mill adventure and also to visit Carolina Fiber Fest! I’ve already signed up for a workshop and am so looking forward to fiber fun in weather above freezing!
While I’m in Raleigh, NC – I’d be interested to know if there are any shepherds looking to mill their wool who would be interested in meeting up? I could offer fiber pickup of your dirty/heavy fleeces & ship you back the roving or yarn.

Snow or wool? I know which pile I would rather jump into!
(Although I did actually get silly and make a snow angel with the dogs in the last storm...)
