Intimate partner vi*lenc* rates in sub Saharan Africa is about 55% and averagely 1 in 4 women and girls 15 years upwards ever partnered have experienced it. And 1 in 3 women have experienced some form of physical/se**al abuse in their life time. These numbers aren’t just statistics, they’re real people and we at @on.this.side are prepared to keep putting this information out there, educate people to speak up, protect themselves and their families, identify signs, defend themselves and just support survivors. Thank you @abcnewsgh_ for the opportunity to educate the public on se**al abuse #womeninleadership #sgbv #onthissidesaah #endsgbv #supportsurvivors

Everytime ab*se is spoken about, men claim to not be the ones, they claim to not know any abusers in their life! And when you show them, they’ll just not say anything. A sad reality that people will use their supposed affluence and their proximity to women to abuse them. Drugging women is sickening, recording them & sharing without their consent is sickening! And it’s interesting to know that, this isn’t the case of one person but of many and so many other cases are never even reported. And in the heat of finding out this sad occurrence, you’ll realise that from so many years ago, a person with huge influence in the same space was publicly proclaiming they “grape” people, Their desire to “grape” people among others. Beyond disappointing! In a time like this, you’ll expect that people in the space ranging from socialites, to celebrities and close associates of the offenders will condemn the act; even if they don’t mean it as a sign of solidarity or some concern. But no! They will defend it with some of the craziest of analogies and comments like “oh that’s impossible”, “this is a set up” etc. And people will rather blame the victims rather than call out the abuser! No consideration for the trauma the victim has experienced whatsoever. The sickening audacity for people to blame victims of se**ual abuse! And as a survivor of se**al abuse, and a co-founder of a se*ual ab*se awareness & survivor support organisation, I stand with the survivors And @on.this.side pledges to keep doing its work. se**al ab*se is not ok! #supportsurvivors #endsgbv #womeninleadership #sexualabuse #onthissidesaah

REAL MEN DO NOT ABUSE WOMEN! In the last few days a cloud of abuse has covered our country. From high profile reports to local incidents, this has become a worrying phenomenon and it’s essential to remind ourselves that being a man does not mean it is ok to take advantage of people. Consent is paramount and as soon as it doesn’t exist everything is illegal. Dragging women isn’t ok, harbouring explicit content of anyone without consent isn’t ok, recording explicit content without consent isn’t ok, disseminating explicit content without consent is not ok. Shame on us as a society for justifying such actions and victim blaming. #supportsurvivors #endsgbv #onthissidesaah #onthisside #endsexualabuse

Throwback Thursday featuring some of the amazing men who came to support us at the placard campaign last month. Having the conversation about se*u*al ab*se without men creates a couple of impressions; - men & boys are not abused - we can fight the menace by just educating women without providing the same education or awareness to the men. - women are responsible for what men do to them. And here at On This Side, we debunk these impressions and tackle the subject from all angles. A survivor is never responsible for what an abuser does to them, men as much as women need awareness and education around the topic of se*ual assault, and yes it is true that men and boys get abused too even though the numbers are lesser and under reported, it is a real thing. Visit our website using the link in our bio to sign up as a volunteer and stay up to date with our work. #onthissidesaah #endsgbv #supportsurvivors #sexualassaultawarenessmonth #sexualassaultawareness
