•Q: Anime girls often exist in a permanent emotional loop. How does freezing a character in time intensify parasocial attachment for viewers?
Omu: I don’t pursue parasocial relationships in my work. I’m drawn to figures that exist outside of narrative, characters frozen in an unchanging emotional state. This suspension creates a controlled, enclosed space that feels safer than real human interaction, which is often unstable and intrusive.
Although the characters are visually idealized, they’re informed by negative or uncomfortable human traits that remain internal and unresolved. That context doesn’t need to be visible to the viewer, it primarily exists as part of my own internal process.
