VERT° SPACE in Bonn is growing!
We’ve received new drone footage from the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn and are excited to see that VERT°SPACE is getting greener and greener! The plants haven’t reached the top just yet, but they’re growing by the week.
VERT°SPACE is designed for installation in public urban spaces and for shading large areas. The freestanding structure can be freely positioned, creating green places to linger right in the middle of the city.
If you haven’t visited yet – it’s worth a look.

„In the future, cities and their inhabitants will need more and more shady spaces – to enable them to get to work or school and generally to spend time in public. Buildings are needed, that are cooled without using energy-intensive technology.“
We spoke with @omcc_office , who are showcasing their system VERD° as part of the WEtransFORM exhibition at the @bundeskunsthalle . We learned more about how they developed the product, their goals, and the interdisciplinary work that goes into creating such a system.

VERD° – a team effort
Take a look behind the scenes and get to know the creative minds behind our vertical greening system VERD°.
Step by step we will introduce you to the team and our partners. This time it’s Diez Office - Stefan Diez and Louis Betin. @stefandiez@louisbetin
Ep. 3 – DIEZ Office
@stefandiez is a Munich-based industrial designer known for his commitment to the circular economy. His studio DIEZ OFFICE works across typologies such as furniture, lighting, architectural elements and accessories, bringing together technical expertise, creative experimentation and a rigorous commitment to sustainability. It is one of the world's leading industrial design offices when it comes to developing product innovations.
Stefan is our valued partner in product development and refinement of VERD°. Over the past three years, he and his team in Munich have played a crucial role in combining the various requirements of our greening system. In our latest newsletter (link in bio), you can read what Stefan is particularly interested in regarding VERD° and why he finds experiments in urban greening so important.
Supported by our strong partner network, we work as an interdisciplinary team to make our new approach to cooling urban space become reality – from developing and planning to installing and planting.

We’re back!
2025 starts with frosty temperatures here in Frankfurt but we are already warmed up and full of energy for the coming season.
Though a little less green and leafy, the winter months are just as eventful for us. We value this time to strategically plan upcoming projects. This year, our VERD° KIDS module will be installed for the first time. We are already super excited to be presenting this configuration to the public and to see it in action. We are also working on further developments for our VERD° FACADE modules, based on the latest wind tunnel test results, reducing material, weight and production costs.
We are curious what this year will bring and look forward to new challenges, opportunities and achievements and, of course, the next planting season.

As 2024 draws to a close, we look back on what a year it has been!
From exciting new projects to unforgettable experiences, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside some amazing people who made it all possible.
Thank you for being a part of our journey this year. We wish you a joyful holiday season and a bright start to 2025.
See you next year!

Turbines, Wind & VERD° – there’s something going on with our plants!
Research is a foundational part of our work for the development and improvement of the VERD° system. As plant sails are not standard building elements, we need to test their physical properties for further calculations.
For this purpose, we teamed up with researchers from the Centre for Wind and Earthquake Engineering (CWE) of the Institut für Stahlbau (STB) at the RWTH Aachen. We tested our plant sails in a wind tunnel that is used for testing and measuring wind forces on architectural structures and modules. This type of research allows us to rethink and re-design our structures with the goal of saving material and therefore reducing the costs, dimensions, loads and especially the carbon footprint along the entire development process. Maximum green, less weight, minimum material.
We are so grateful that we received such great support by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Kemper and his team from the CWE. Many thanks!

Harvest 2024
Another growing season draws to a close in Frankfurt.
At our VERD° prototype, colours are changing from vibrant green to beautiful shades of purple, red and yellow. This signals the harvesting season for us.
We collected the netting together with the plant matter. The plant sails are easily dis-assembled with the roping mechanism. The harvested plant material will be utilised for further research and composting.
This year, we chose to leave one unit intact to study the hibernation habits of the insects that lived among the greenery throughout the summer months.

In the face of heating cities, Vert is an urban greening solution constructed using American red oak glulam.
Here, @stefandiez of industrial design practice Diez Office and Carlotta Stoll of urban greening specialists @omcc_office , who collaboratively designed Vert for this year’s @l_d_f_official , discuss how the design concept behind the structure responds to the urgent need to introduce more nature into our cities.
Watch the full film at the link in our bio.
Vert is on display at Chelsea College of Arts until 14th October.
