Interview with EMEL @emelmathlouthi by Omar Shady @omarshadyy during her international tour, her next stop: Paris, 29th May
@emelmathlouthi has established herself as a forward-thinking artist on the international scene, known for her powerful performances and strong artistic voice.
Film director @omarshadyy sets out to look beyond the voice, beyond the stage, capturing something more intimate.
“I’ve always wondered, as a listener, I’m deeply moved by Emel’s words and emotions as a singer. But what happens when the image zooms all the way in? What lies behind that voice, those words… and who is she, beyond everything, as a human being? That question stayed with me. A curiosity that kept growing, eventually leading me on this journey, getting closer, documenting moments I had never seen or known as part of the audience.”
A journey between Egypt and the UAE, following her as she prepared for Tanweer Festival in Sharjah.

In photography, fashion, and music videos, Omar Shady’s protagonists and products cannot be separated from Cairo. To him, it’s one story. The city, he says, will always be his muse.
“The work I make for Palma pushes against the usual logic of polished fashion campaigns,” Shady tells CairoScene. “It is less interested in what is being worn than in where the wearing is happening.”

Since I was a kid, I wished I knew how to draw!
I was always full of questions.
How does a painter see the final image from the very first brushstroke? How do colors find their balance before the painting is even complete?
I was drawn to the process, the drafts, the trials, the experiments.
A few years ago, @getpalma gave me that chance.
But not on paper. Not on canvas.
On reality itself.
Shaping real spaces with real ideas, tangible, visible, alive!
Only a week ago, alongside Nada, we drew this day from its very first sketch: From the invitations, to the emotions we wanted people to leave with.
It wasn’t easy.
But it was truly rewarding.
