THE FIRST EVER SANDWICH đ„Ș AD
Follow me as I try to replicate the first ever sandwich from 1762 with @hellmansuk and try and put the little town of Sandwich in Kent, back on the map. Iâve recipe tested, chatted to historians David Olusoga and Annie Gray, travelled far and wide, itâs one of the toughest challenges Iâve faced in the kitchen, but I reckon we did a pretty good job. You can try the sandwich right now at The Crispin Inn in Sandwich, Kent!
Back onto tour - A Gun Through Time. Colchester tonight Leeds on Sunday - Glasgow Monday. Then date across the country until the middle of May. Come along if you want to hear the strange, bizarre unexpected history of guns .
Never did I imagine Iâd be called upon by @HellmannsUK for my historical perspective on sandwiches and British history.
Working together with friend @dranniegray , a food historian, we set out to imagine what might have filled the very first sandwich; a small question that opens up a much larger story.
The conclusion? You can discover it for yourself at The Crispin Inn in Sandwich, Kent, where the sandwich is being served starting April 2. The first 150 sandwiches are free from 12pm!
A special thanks to @dinnerbyben for bringing our vision to life, giving it a thoughtful and delicious modern twist. Go try the sandwich in Sandwich!
