Some of the most exciting moments happen behind the scenes. During a personal photo shoot at the Balenciaga Museum, my client wanted to explore several looks — from soft, natural elegance to a dramatic evening style.
I was there to retouch makeup and transform the look with bordeaux lips and a half-up, half-down ponytail, sometimes working right in the museum halls with an extremely limited amount of time, because every minute was worth its weight in gold.

1. Prep your lips. Always start with exfoliation and a light balm. Smooth, hydrated lips hold color better and look naturally plump.
2. Neutralize. A thin layer of concealer or primer creates the perfect base and keeps the pigment in place.
3. Define the shape. Use a long-lasting gel lip pencil not only to contour but to fill in your lips — it works as an anchor for the lipstick.
4. Layer and blot. Apply your lipstick, blot gently with a tissue, then add a second coat for depth and longevity.
5. Set with powder. Place a tissue over your lips and dust a bit of translucent powder on top — this seals the color while keeping the texture soft.
