I've always loved library events but the vibes at @oldham_libraries last Saturday were a different level π The audience were so engaged and joined in with questions and memories and reflections. It was such a beautiful community event and I loved hearing people's anecdotes and stories about migration and belonging and food.
Some attendees even remembered my grandfather's restaurant in Oldham, The New Selina (named after my mum), that used to stand at 9 Mumps (IYKYK). And in true Oldham fashion, snacks were served at the end in the form of samosas and pakoras, and we all gathered around, eating, sharing and continuing the chat. It was truly cosy, with my grandma, aunty, uncle, cousin, Avi and the kids coming along too - 'why are all these people talking to you?' was Little Lass's main concern. Little Lad was very keen to sit through the whole thing to understand what "Ammu's work" involves. Hopefully they get it a little more now.
Thank you Karuna and team at @oldham_libraries - I'll absolutely be back if you'll have me! π
