I got mistaken for grandpa again. 😂
My daughter and I were in line at the fabric store when the cashier asked what she was going to make with her grandpa.
I pointed at my shirt: Not Grandpa.
She got embarrassed, apologized, and said she just felt like we were the same age and she already had grandkids of her own. I told her no worries — it happens a lot. The white beard gets me every time.
Then she asked where we got our shirts and hat.
That’s an Old Daddin’ moment if I’ve ever heard one.
My daughter was wearing the He’s Dad, Not Grandpa tee, and I had on the Not Grandpa shirt with my Old Daddin’ patch hat.

A bunch of you have asked what inspired the Not Grandpa slogan at Old Daddin’.
Truth is, it came straight from real life.
Before I founded Old Daddin’, I’d be out with my kids and sometimes get mistaken for their grandpa. At the time, I had just turned 46, and our crew was 5-year-old twin girls and a 6-year-old son. I’ve also got a white beard, which probably didn’t help my case.
Most of the time it was older people. But what really stood out was when people my own age would ask about my grandkids. Once I told them those were actually my kids, they’d immediately apologize. And I’d always tell them, “It’s no big deal — I’m proud of it, and honestly, it’s kind of funny LOL.”
After founding Old Daddin’, I launched gear with our classic patch logo and started hearing the same thing from so many of you in the comments and messages: “I get mistaken for Grandpa all the time.”
That’s where Not Grandpa was born.
The Not Grandpa tee and hoodie became a way to wear that story with humor and pride, a way to let your gear do the answering for you, and often a great conversation starter — sometimes even leading to a connection with a fellow Old Dad who didn’t know the brand yet.
